One major problem with your poll:

Not everyone has played all those games. I can't judge whether a game is good for RP or not if I haven't played it. That's going to lead to skewed results.

I never said it's not an RPG.

I said that, as an RPG, it's sub-par. Nothing it does in that department hasen't been done before, and better at that. It's a very good game, but it's a decent RPG at best.

There's no way to get around that. You can adjust the weight given to this or that game, depending on its popularity and how many people have played it, though. For instance, I'm pretty sure Icewind Dale ranks too low in the polls, but that's likely because it's less popular than NWN or BG.

Well unless your a superstar athlete,a burly dragon slayer or a brilliant scientist with a crobar I would have to say that every game is a roleplaying game. It might not have rules or dice roll based statistics but as long as the game can pull you into the shoes of a character in the game it qualifies. What's to do that I'm not roleplaying the role of headcoach of the Buffalo Sabres when I play dynasty mode in NhL 12? Now if your going with pure RPG, ill start with Oblivion because that was my first RPG.technically speaking. Skyrim had a bit less in way of stats and skills but it kept that feeling of past Elder Scrolls games alive and that's what counts.

I'm not familiar with Schiller, but his work certainly looks interesting. Thanks for pointing me in its direction. :)

Wittgenstein is a crock. His theories were mostly disproven and he was sort of the overhyped rockstar of the philosophical realm. He all but banned Kurt Gudel from the Vienna Circle and started an almost cult like following .

Please don't wave your thumbs around. I don't know where they've been.

RPG-ness?

It sums up the idea of the quality behind RPGs well enough, I think.
