I think Bethesda stated that they had a lot of issues with small DLC, i think they are heading for less but bigger DLC or Expansions.

You know you have to DOWNLOAD the expansions right?

And an EXPANSION is CONTENT.

SO EXPANSIONS ARE DOWN-LOADABLE CONTENT.

As though anyone was forced to buy it! DLC was a new mechanism at the time horse armor was released. Bethesda experimented with different types of content to see what would interest the players. All players who didn't want to buy horse armor needed to do was ... nothing. Of course, at our house any mention of horse armor triggers a lecture on its benefits by my husband. :D

To me the funniest thing about Horse Armor is that while it raised a big stink back then, it's actually not as bad as some stuff released now. For example, Fable 3 charges a similar amount for a wearable dog suit for your character. :shakehead: (and that's just an example, there's other games out there with similar DLC)
At least the horse armor was not only a vanity item, but also had use since it made your horses survive better. ;)

It raised a stink back then because gamers weren't used to DLC. If it would have been released in this day and age not everyone would have bought it, but no one would have batted an eyelid.

Id take small DLC that was very world persistent (such as the player housing of Ob) which you could use for an entire play through easily.

Im not a fan of DLC/expans that takes you out the world (T, BM, SI, 4 of those in FO3) and places little in the main game world.

tinie-tiny DLC akin to DA:O or Fable can take a flying leap though...

I think there should be exactly 8 DLC

Morrowind
Cyrodil
High Rock
Hammerfell
Black Marsh
Elsewyr
Vallenwood
Summerset

Then if they want to, Akavir and the other places
And all the oblivion and divine planes
(each plane the size of a province of course)

I mean, they release a new TES game every 5 years
The engine, gameplay, bodies, core voice actors, core equipments are all done

So this is basicaly tilesets and world creation, with some creatures and gear to boost
maybe some gameplay additions like improved marriage, cooking, atronach forge & ritual spells stuff,
maybe some way to get beyond level 80, drivable ships, fishing, fletching
... that sort of thing wouldn t hurt

Also I think morrowind and cyrodil could be done really fast because all the vision is already established for those provinces
they can refurbish those ayelids ruins and telvani towers, bring the old tilsets up to speed
they are not starting from scratch

Likewise, high rock isnt that far off from cyrodil and skyrim
hammerfull would ressemble hlaalu style being in an arabic desert type of setting
(which is all adobe construction really, even the steppe kingdoms were also built with that sort of yellow brick thingy)

Anyway lets start with the 8, then add the oblivion planes
major war moving toward summerset and the thalmor dominion
built in a cresscendo

rebuild the empire with us as the new emperor eventually

but they should improve tracking of player behavior
right now being evil have no consequences
and you are not allowed to fight the daedra
it makes the 8 divines look like clowns

I think for each evil quest there should be a *good* counter quest
at least as much rewarding
