I miss the atmosphere of Oblivion.

Oblivion never came close to matching Morrowind's environment. That long, lonely, dark, ash-filled walk up to Dagoth Ur's Citadel.... *shudder*

I love Skyrims atmosphere. It's unique, dark, but still vibrant at certain locations and moments. Very original, and much better than cookie-cutter Oblivion.

Oblivion was horrible. Everything about it was unreservedly bad. The only thing worth a damn that Oblivion introduced was a more concrete combat system.

Skyrim is what Oblivion should have been. It gets everything right except for the bad UI and UI controls on PC.

Coming from my first Bethesda game FO, I think Skyrim is awesome. And Riverwood has a cheery type feel IMO.

As much as I liked Oblivion, I love Skyrim even more. I am realy enjoying the great graphics, the storylines, the sense of fear and dread as I walk out into a world populated by Giants and Mammoths. I also have had lots of Morrowind-like random encounters that make me very happy. :)

I agree, but still it's a different game and it's meant to be this way. c:

First off and most important I love skyrim. It is one heck of a game. It's absolutely the meaning of perfection. Graphics, gameplay, eveything is made with love and is done just right, of course there are minor things that bug me but I'm not one of those that thinks the game was made for me, no reason to even bring them up.

One thing that I miss from Oblivion. It's not that it makes Skyrim a bad game it's actually what makes it good. I miss the feel and atmosphere of Oblivion. I know Skyrim is dark and dreary and Bethesda did a fine job at portraying that but I really loved the greenery and feel of Ovlivion, the morning you'd walk around and see the locals tending to their gardens and livestock, the music that made you feel like on a great adventure that's full of rainbows and unicorns(joking), except of course when you stumbled across one of damn gates but even then the enemy's even felt a little sunny and Zelda-ish. Now with Skyrim I get the feeling of being a little scared when in a dungeon or up on a snowy mountain, even the music scares me, I could almost feel the cold going through my body. Of course I'm being a little dramatic.
Skyrim's feel is perfect for Skyrim, it's how I would of imagined it. Oblivion's feel is perfect for Cyrodiil. If they would have mixed the two it would of worked. I have not gotten that far into Skyrims world yet so I'm hoping I see some of these places later on.

Anyone get what I'm saying. I almost want to pop in Oblivion just to get out of this dark mood. Once again not complaining just a down. The way that I feel means Bethesda did their job, thanks guys. It's funny how you can pay 60 bucks for a game and play it for 8hrs or you can spend the same 60 and play one for years and always find something new. Skyrim gets a 10 from me. My tens don't mean perfect because nothing is perfect, they just mean I'm having a blast.

wow, just the opposite for me, I LOVE the atmosphere of skyrim. it reminds me a lot of morrowind, which was very immersive and captivating. oblivion seemed shallow by contrast.

I agree with OP. It's an unpopular opinion, but it's one I can't help. I love 'generic' fantasy worlds, and the dark and gritty thing is feeling really overdone at this point. Maybe I'm just a boring person.

The generic and bright fantasy setting was one of the biggest reasons I didn't really like Oblivion. I love Skyrim's design! It's closer to Morrowind's than Oblivion's.

I think skyrim has the best setting in any TES game I played

morrowind was a bit too weird for my taste
alien like almost with that huge flea transport system and whatnot
some of the environments and plants were from another world as well
really enjoyed the game but a lot of this stuff I found a bit weird and out of place

Oblivion on the other was way too generic it was like being in the woods outside my house
a bit boring

but in Skyrim they found a perfect balance IMO
the enviroment is grounded enough to be believable
and weird enough to be amazing

I just wanna go there XD

Well Skyrim does a fine job of representing the geography of the area in my opinion. Never played any of the other games in the series so it isnt a factor for me.

Meh Skyrim is like a 5.5/10 for me.

Theres just way too many blatant terrible design decisions, its just too much to stand.

I went back to NV, and ill play skyrim again when the modders make this game what it
was supposed to be in the first place.

Beth really needs to hire some of them, because [censored] hell are they better in every way to
whoever the hell they're paying to design for them.

I do love Skyrim's world design, it's a harsher, more rugged environment like Vvardenfell's, but it carries over the more realistic style of Cyrodiil without the annoying WoW landscape transitions where one minute you're in Swamp Land, and the next you're in Volcano World that plagued Morrowind.

That being said, yeah, I can only play Skyrim for about an hour or so before I have to pop in Oblivion. Especially with the Lush and Gaudy Floriana Gloria mod, it's such a gorgeous game :tes:
