Legendary armor, and weapons doesn't matter. They die faster then I can recruite them !! I suppose I am gonna have to marry one to keep her alive long enought to be any good to me !! All 3 wemon were prespective spouses. Okay not any more !! I may have been a bachelor to long !! :violin:

Once you meet a companion, they stop scaling in level.

So if you meet Lydia at level 5, she'll stay at level 5 all game.

There's no workaround that i know of unless you're playing on Computer sorry.

That's why I fly solo B)

The companions (no, not the werewolves) in Skyrim are pretty broken, I'm sure it won't be long before a patch comes out though.
