New Engine, No Mods?

Post » Fri Nov 06, 2009 5:54 am

I find it funny how same say that TES without mods is a terrible game...this is ridiculous. I had OB for the PS3 and never bought any other games for an entire year because I was so into it and the first I bought after it was OB GOTY for the PC and sure I love mods but if I had to choose bwteen no mods and an amazing or mods and a bad game I would choose the vanilla game to be amazing. Fortunately Beth gives us both, an amzing vanilla game and mods.

Of course there will be mods. Bethesda would have to be morons not to make it modable. Actually i would rather expect that they make it even more modable etc. then Oblivion.

Agreed. I got started into the Elder Scrolls by a friend who loaned me his Xbox copy of Morrowind. I loved it so much that I bought my own, played it for quite a while (multiple play-throughs, which is rare for me), and then got it and Oblivion for PC when I bought my first desktop. Even without mods, I still think it's the best series out there. My only issue was that my game kept freezing after about an hour of play on Xbox. It became very frustrating. I'll most likely be upgrading my PC for Skyrim because I love playing with mods more. That said, I may also buy it for Xbox360 because sometimes I get uncomfortable at my desk (a new chair would probably help).

Im sure it's on everyone's mind; will this new engine support ES modding? I have not seen word (to my knowledge) of any information stating it will be moddable as in the other games. It may be a little early to say, but you never know.

Don't even speak of such heresy! We can have both!

Do you know how many games nowadays allow modding? They'd be missing a huge chunk of the market if they didn't leave that avenue open.

thats one of the main reason people buy the games, so yeh there will probably be mods

For my prediction, I will change up aforementioned words just slightly, I am sure you will get what I am almost quoting.

There Will Be Mods.

:P Again, that's my prediction, I do not know this for fact, I just wanted to say that, I do however assume there will be, even though it does not impact me, since I'll be getting it for either Xbox 360 or PS3 (overall I'd rather for the PS3, but I like the controller design of the Xbox 360's better, I like the main anolog stick being at the left side of the controller, as opposed to the two of the sided by side near the bottom center of the controller's face. Hm...).

All the more reason I am emphatic about that Bethesda please put a lot of fan pleaser stuff in it, like Werewolves. I think a lot of players want to be able to play as one in a TES game, those who don't play any of them for the PC haven't been able to do that yet... Apologies for wandering off topic, but I try to mention that whenever and wherever I can so the staff at Bethesda can see it. A lot. >.>

Not only a Construction Set but a easy do use too, like the Oblivion CS, any people reading some tutorials are able to start mods. Others games let people to make mods, but only professional of the area with a lot of patient and study can make something. Neverwinter Night 2 Toolset for example. I want to die using that thing.

I hope someone puts cyrodiil into skyrim, like morroblivion mod, then we could even have vvardenfell, solstheim, skyrim and cyrodill in the one game and that would be mad.

Then if there was a compatibility patch for deserts of anequina we'ed have elsweyr too...

Skyocyridilowind... To replace Morroblivio... The resource who's name must not be mentioned.

I'm sure Bethesda would want to release some sort of tool to mod the game, how else are they going to get so much free help fixing bugs?

I know that Bethesda, especially with Elder Scrolls, releasing their construction set is a main sell point. Im not saying there won't be mods. I'm a modder and I love it. I was worried when I heard wind of a new engine. So my thought is this. With this new engine would be expect a different type of modding? More advanced or for that matter, completely different construction set all together?

Where is this info on a new engine?

anyone know anything about this "New Engine". as in does it still use components to the gamebryo renderer and scene graph?

no mod tools would be such an epic fail. I can't even begin to convey how epic. think how epic MW was... now imagine the opposite of that.

While i wouldn't die, i am that interested in game development that i am not so partial to Beths engine any more. But there would have been a time I would have felt a great loss if all the time spent on this engine were wasted. now I know i will just be working in several other engines anyway.
Still I am looking forward to EPIC TES5 MODDING

I know there is a legion of modders with me on this one, and legions more of mod fans. Epic modding session!

I cant imagine them doing ANY game without mods, regardless of the engine they use since it has been such a big part of their games, not to mention highly rewarding to their fans.

Modding will probably be different to be sure. A new engine means everything works differently. But, Bethesda needs to develop their games using some sort of development kit, and I'm going to assume they made that kit with user friendliness in mind so it could be released to us. To completely shaft the modding community would be utterly devastating to the franchise, and really ruin a lot of what the PC version of Elder Scrolls has going for it.

Hell, I STILL mod Morrowind. 8 and a half years old and that game is still going strong.

I think it is a given that Bethesda would not make a game without a decent construction set provided for modders.

After all, the only reason people are playing Oblivion after all these years is thanks to mods (once you see mods like Dark Darn UI, or FCOM, or enhanced economy), there is no going back to vanilla Oblivion. I have yet to start the main quest in Oblivion, and I've owned the game for more than 4 years now!

The lasting power for this game is thanks to the construction set, so BSG better keep that as modder friendly as possible :)
