Okay, I bought a Horse, near Solitude, 1000 gold, sturdy looking chap. Done the Bards College first quest, trotting over the marsh on the outskirts of Solitude, stumbled across a Bear, So I dismount a fair distance away, kill the Bear, I come back and the Horse is Dead! An Ice Wraith was lurking so I believe this was the killer. Couldnt bring myself to skin the poor lad.

So, I would like to ask as I havent played since that is the Horse gone or would it be respawned back at the stable? It just seems such a quick loss of a 1000 gold hard earned.

Also, do you have houses to purchase with Stables???

If you play on the PC you can resurrect the horse, just google to find out how. Other than that, no, you are out 1000 gold and now your horse.

get shadow mere for a horse that will never die in combat (unless you sit there and dont kill the enemy he is tanking with his 900 hp, or you jump down a cliff)
