Urgh...what's gone wrong with my install?

I'm finally ready to start playing Oblivion again, after a full reinstall...but something's gone horribly awry.
When selecting a new character, the Complexion, Age, and all other face structure modifying options all have no effect. (Strangely, though, if I choose a "Random" face, the structure will change.) This is even when I'm running vanilla Oblivion, with absolutely no mods.
Furthermore, the facial structures of the characters I am able to "randomize" often are lopsided at the jaw line once I get in-game...even though they don't appear that way during character creation. (For example, one character I recently designed looks like she got punched in the side of the face - narrow jaw on one side, fat jaw on the other.)

I suspect this might have something to do with my installing Improved Facial Textures directly into my Oblivion - Textures - Compressed BSA (yes, I know, that was a bad idea). Unfortunately, since I don't have a backup of the textures/characters folder in that BSA, I'll have to do a full reinstall...unless someone would be kind enough to upload a replacement copy of ONLY those files for me?

Any other ideas on what could be wrong?
