Ever since I got a ps3 slim (there are two models, a and b, a being the first model of the slim, b being a relatively newish one), games have frozen on me, fallout 3 new vegas being the worst, but possibly related. If you even google "ps3 slim freezing", you will see that it's a major problem.

For my own benefit, if you are having regular freezing issues where you have to button press the ps3 off, post what ps3 type you have. slim (a or b if you know it), or fat 20, 60, 80 with ps2 software emulation, 40, 80 without ps2 emulation, etc.

I am considering trying to get sony to replace my slim with another model, since I originally sent in a 20gb original, and it didn't freeze in games as much, and now I sort of want it back.

I have an 80gig 3rd gen without PS2 emulation. Game freezes at the loading screen whenever I try to load a game and I have to restart the PS3 by the power switch in front, or it goes to a white screen where I can quit the game through the PS button on the controller. Didn't start doing this until after the patch, before it froze a few times, but wasn't too bad. I've tried everything you can do besides getting a new system and it still freezes at the same screen without fail time after time.

sometimes, when i read things like that, i feel like giving up playstation and switching to the pc again...

this is all [censored] up. im glad there are some epic games well done, like gta or god of war.... at least this ridiculouis freezing isnt usual today.

Problem: Freezing causing complete system crash/lock-up forcing a hard restart or shutdown.


I have a launch date 60gb "fat" PS3 (model CEHCA01) running current (version 3.50) firmware update.
I have downloaded the F:NV patch version 1.01.

PS3 has been kept in a well ventilated shelf, dusted weekly and cleaned with compressed air monthly for four years.
No problems with any other software: have tried multiple Blu-ray games, PSN games, Blu-ray movies, PS2 and PS1 format DVD games and older DVD movies: all work fine.

I have a ps3 slim and Fallout 3 only froze a few times for me and it completely stopped. New Vegas freezes, but I don't think it's caused by the slim. The freezing seems to be caused by the hard drive. Next time your game freezes watch for the yellow light blinking on your hard drive, if it's blinking don't turn off your PS3. Instead of turning it off wait a few minutes to see if you're able to move again. If you're able to move do not go back in the direction where the game froze, go the opposite direction and save your game and reload the save.

I'm runnig the first gen. "fat" ps3. Originally 80 gb, but I upgraded it to 500gb.

PS3 runs perfect, never had a game freeze on me. EVER.


Fallout: NV keeps freezing on me when I am on my way back to the strip, after leaving the fort. As, the mission, THE HOUSE ALWAYS WINS II, states me to do.
Whenever I even attempt to make it towards the gate, it freezes my screen, but the audio continues to play. I attached a picture of the freezing screen.

cannot get back into the strip. the game is essentially broken. i have been waiting for the patch by doing other quests but they seem empty and meaningless. this is quite boring compared to fo3.

I've got a fat 40gb PS3. Absolutely no problems with any other game, but New Vegas freezes every half hour or so and has framerate/lag issues constantly.

I have an early issue PS3, 80GB model. The game is freezing non stop. It was ok initially, but since we received some patch earlier this week, its pretty much unplayable. My game is freezing constantly, and now other weird things have begun to occor. Inventory disappearing etc. It is rather irritating.

i just toss an ice pack or two under the ps3 and it usually helps..

I have been playing for about 30 hours now freezing only here and there. But now I have gotten to this point where it loads the game then I lose the sound to the game little by little. First the pip-boy sounds go away, radio, and finally guns. Then after I can only hear the footsteps of my character it freezes and crashes. I just hope I don't have to start over and they fix this soon because it is a great game without all the bugs and freezing.

Same here, I have about 30 hours clocked and my game was freezing every once in a while up until the patch was released, now my game freezes constantly. This problem has rendered the game unplayable, there needs to be a fix soon.

First ever freeze in any game

When I sleep outside at the gas station outside Helios One and the junkyard it freezes everytime.

With or without the 1.01 patch.

Played a total of three hours last night and it froze three different times. This game could of been so good but everytime it freezes for a sec, I am worried about the last time I saved. I am saving the game every 5 minutes especially if I am out exploring. I have no clue how they could put this game out with this many bugs. I think the fans of this series would of been okay if they delayed it until closer to Christmas to fix these errors. The word iis out and I know it has to stifle sales a bit.
