First of all, for me Crysis 2 is the best FPS game ever and Crytek is the best studio however the support is. I hope in the future titles Crytek improves sales and support to perfection, you know what I mean eheh, and remain as an independent studio.
Call of Duty series which the old Infinity Ward crew created were the ones I enjoyed to play, the approach, creativity, realism was all okay for me. They made the Call of Duty, Call of Duty 2, Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2. I didn't play other titles and didn't like them. If you are interested in how Activision ruined a good studio, here is an article about the sad story: http://venturebeat.com/2010/03/07/the-making-and-unmaking-of-infinity-ward/. Read it.
Battlefield allows you to fire realistic weaponry, pilot genuine vehicles and...
Above is written in official Battlefield 3 web site.
I haven't played BF3 multiplayer yet and I'm writing these according to SP campaign. I hope somethings change in multiplayer. And please note, I'm not saying BF3 is totally a 3rd class game.
1. Weapons: They look like toys, some piece of cartoon. If this is "realistic weaponry", I can only imagine that guys in DICE are using the word "realistic" in a fundamentally different sense which I can't comprehend.
2. I can't feel like I'm actually playing, shooting and getting in action with some real world equipment because of the so called realistic weaponry.
3. Weapons look and sound far more real even in Modern Warfare which was released in 2007. So the action...
4. Plot: I had the feeling that the plot in BF3 was similar to MW2.
- MW2: A rogue general plots the world, blows some nukes and World War 3 begins, he
uses everyone. Only three soldiers know the conspiracy and stops him.
- BF3: A rogue intelligence agent plots the world, blows nukes and tries to start World War 3
Only three soldiers know the conspiracy and stops him.
Even the details are similar but executing the scenario is much better in MW2.
5. BF3 team probably worked more on multiplayer side of the game.
6. Again realistic weaponry: This is a FPS game not some title meant to be like GTA series. This shouldn't be the way to make difference from other studios' approach.
7. I guess parent companies like EA, Activision and console manufacturers push studios because of competition and as a result competition works against gamers which should be opposite.
Long story short, I'm not impressed so far.
