Then...Crysis 2 came.
At first, my impressions of the game were relatively high. Although more linear than its predecessors, the Singleplayer campaign was quite good. But, I digress...
THE MULTIPLAYER.
Oh, my, oh gracious me! The HORROR! Absolutely stupefied and stunned, I was. Two emotions which, in any other event, wouldn't have occurred in tandem. It was the most blatant and shameless CoD clone that I had ever seen. With the exception of the Nanosuit, the gameplay was identical. Of course, with such a cult following with Crysis 1, the developers had to have implemented some variant of Power Struggle? Nope. In fact, all the multiplayer modes featured in the game were all centered around a lone-wolf Deathmatch play-style. I knew that after the game went live the developers wouldn't include a Powerstruggle mode -- it was just simply too much work (even for as a DLC).
Now that Crysis 3 has been officially announced, I worry that Crytek will continue in this decrescendo in order to "broaden" the demographics and sell more copies. The only solution which would satisfy the Crysis veterans (like myself, who has played since the Crysis 1 beta) would be to include Power Struggle (with larger maps, obviously).
The cards are folded, the plan is yours. If you choose to abandon the Powerstruggle mode which made Crysis so great, so be it. It will simply be one more reason to wait until Battlefield 2143 comes out.
