Graphic settings make no difference

Post » Mon Apr 16, 2012 12:06 am

I think this is since I installed the DX11 patch and the Hi-res textures pack.

I play the game and try different settings but as far as I can tell there is no change to graphics in game. This seems to be the case whether I have DX11 enabled or not, and whether I have high-res textures available or not.

Strangely, it does have a huge effect on my FPS - on all "high" settings, I get over 60FPS pretty much constantly. On all "ultra" settings I slow down to approx 20-30 FPS. Still looks the same though...

I'm usually pretty sensitive to differences and remember being able to tell the difference between high / gamer / extreme or whatever the original options were, so pretty sure it's not just me.

I've also noticed that in the console I get a lot of red error messages about various commands not being registered. It's like the game is trying to execute commands to change graphics settings but not being able to find them.

If it's relevant, I am using the Steam version of the game, confirmed to be patched to 1.9 and have already tried reinstalling the DX11 patch. My graphics card is a GTX460 so it is DX11 and I am running Win 7 64 bit.

Any ideas? I really would like to replay this game and see the difference in settings.

This is normal.

I am the same, my fps drops from a solid (capped) 50fps to c.25-30fps if I move from all High to all Ultra. Like you say it's hard to see the difference. It's only when you see side by side screens that you can see what is changing. There was a thread here a couple of weeks ago that had some side by side screens so you could compare but I couldn't find it.

The level of detail in the geometry is perhaps the biggest difference, plus more subtle effects. It's one of the strengths of the game in my opinion that people running cheaper systems still get very good graphics.

The red error messages are normal so don't worry about those. Are you playing the campaign or the MP game?

It may be "normal" for people not to spot some subtle differences but I am 99% certain that is not what is happening. There is actually no difference whatsoever on my system as far as I can tell.

When I first played the game (before the DX11 pack) I could tell the difference between the settings that were available, I'm sure of it. I remember thinking there was quite a lot of diff between the first 2 settings but the highest setting wasn't worth the FPS drop. In MP I rolled back to the lowest setting to ensure that gameplay was smooth and it was a noticeable difference swapping between the 2.

Not sure how you can claim the red error messages are normal without knowing which specific ones I am seeing. What error messages do you see when you load a campaign level?

I am playing the campaign at the moment but will give the MP a try and see if I can tell any diff there.

If you can find the screenshot comparisons that might be interesting to see how it compares to what I see.

Well I was trying to help but seems like you wanna be a prick.

Everyone gets a whole list of red error messages when they enter the console. Thus I assumed the errors you were seeing were normal. Maybe if you'd specified the specific message you get I could have answered your question more specifically.

Go away.
