If you like to play games at a slower pace and you aren't concerned about combat then you'll like Morrowind.

There is a really good graphics enhancer floating around that someone will link to.

EDIT: also everything in the game revolves around your skills.....if you svck at your weapon skill you will never hit the enemy (even when using a bow when you see the aroow go throguh them). You'll fail magic if your skill isnt high enough excerta......player skill is not used much (other then running away).

If the only thing you'd like is less hand holding then I'm not sure if it's worth $20. The learning curve is high(er) than Skyrim and it's isn't because the game holds your hand.

1: The combat isn't bad, it just follows a very strict older format. If you're ever played any turn based RPGs or D&D you probably will have a sense of nostalgia over the combat. I don't find it frustrating as I'm somewhat accustomed to getting slaughtered because the enemies are not rubber banded to me via level (level scaling), but it may be somewhat frustrating for you if you're not used to such combat.

2: It's very easy to essentially handicap yourself in the beginning if you're not careful with how you select your class, race, and sign. That being said you can get some awesome synergy between the 3 if you re-roll a couple times and do some research.

3: The game is dated graphically however I recommend a mod called Morrowind Overhaul which provides a wide range of updated textures, models, sounds, and also some shaders. There are points where Morrowind looks better than Skyrim to me. However whether it be the mod, or the dated sound design some of the sound volumes are screwy where everything sounds loud despite range.

4: The game is slow, and not in a bad way. Skyrim is like a roller coasting, while Morrowind is like a lazy river (at least at first) I'm not very far so I'm unsure if the speed quickens at some point but I'm okay with slowly making my way through Morrowind. Expect to spend more time in towns just walking around than actually fighting anything.

I've only been playing for maybe 5-10 hours of Morrowind and after re-rolling 6-8 times I'm maybe 5% through the main storyline. I've been switching between Skyrim and Morrowind and I'd heavily recommend that if you're going to play Morrowind and they provide two totally different experiences. But as I said before if you're only looking for a more adventure like feeling, of exploration I'd recommend watching some LPs (Lets Plays) of Morrowind first, or buying Minecraft.

If you want an idea on how Morrowind differs from Oblivion:

Read this: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Morrowind_for_Oblivion_Players

Many artificats in Morrowind are not quest related, and it really payed to explore random dungeons...and back out if needed......its quite easy to stumble upon a crazy high levelled place and get killed quickly.

I second that - put a lot of emphasis and take your time on character creation, check your racial abilities, pros and cons and choose your specialization, attributes and major & minor skills carefully.I restarted my char few times before I got the feeling of importance of character creation - the gameplay is really enjoyable for me now.

To help out I just started morrowind and what these players say is true take your time becareful in your choices when making your character more so then you were in skyrim. The more careful you are in creating your character the easier your starting off will be, side note..check the difficulty as well I find my difficulty slider was too high and had too lower it down some. Your difficulty setting in morrowind has a major effect on your play through...far more then skyrim's difficulty setting.

So, ok, I've read up on how rumours are just rumours and not new quests things, and, that morrowind is harder and takes longer, which is awesome.

Yay! You won't regret it, but be warned. After playing games like Skyrim etc etc, without playing Morrowind before. (Or at least not for a long time) You may be a little put off, but once you get past that. It'll be an amazing game! <3
