Haven't downloaded the GECK, but I have a question about it.

Hi,

Basically, I've downaloaded a mod which allows the PC to have their own Sonic screwdriver - all working well, the only thing is, I don't like the fact that it is held as a pistol... especially considering I've got FO re-animated, it just looks stupid to be held the way it does...

So, this is where the fine people of the Bethesda forums come in, as I have a quick question about the GECK - can it be used to change the way weapons are held? Specifically modded weapons - also, are there pre-set settings? E.G Pistol, knife, rifle and so on which could be used to do a quick change, or would it require more work?

Thanks very much!

There's only so much you can do with that sort of thing in the GECK, your options are limited. No doubt the mod author based the Sonic Screwdriver on some other weapon type and there's only so many ways you can show how your character holds them. While you can try to change the animation, and they are all preset BTW, I doubt you'll be able to find anything that will satisfy you. All you can do is try and find something, but I wouldn't get your hopes up if I were you. Although a knife animation might be more appropriate now that I think of it.

Thanks for the reply! :)

I've had some help over on the Nexus, and I've managed to get the GECK installed. I don't really want to go into editing the mesh, just changing the way it's held to a pre-set (I can put up with the knife animation, as it would look plausible).

However, I've hit a bit of a snag with it, I've got the file open, found the arts & sounds part, and set the change to onehandmelee, and when I load it up, nothing changes.... unsure as to why this is, but one thing I did notice was that there were two files available, one was a master file, the other a plugin, is it because I was editing the plugin and not the master? If so, how do I get the master file to open? I just can't get it going at the minute because it tries to open all of the DLC and FO3 master files with the modded masterfile (the one I want), and so just aborts the whole thing :/

The sonic screwdriver in my http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15215 mod has a sonic screwdriver that is held the correct way. And it has a Tardis to fly in too.

I used the 'lead pipe' for how its held and used.

Hmmm, thanks for that :) Is there a way I could copy certain attributes of your sonic screwdriver into the Fallout Who mod? Such as the pose and possibly the way it looks? Don't take it as a dismissal of your mod, but I love everything else about the mod I'm already running  and I just want to change this small thing.

If I could copy your sonic screwdriver model & the way it's held onto the mod I'm running, without altering the weapons abilities such as to open & lock doors, and take out robots from afar, then that would be the perfect solution!

I don't know how that one is set up. Just replace the old with my version (renaming it) and see what happens.

Hmmm, I've downloaded your Nightmare realm file... and I'm looking at it in the GECK, however, I'm unsure on how to copy the file over to the Fallout Who mod?, would I have to adjust it manually? I.e. change all of the stats in the Fallout Who screwdriver to be the same as yours?

I can't seem to open both files at the same time, and there doesn't seem to be a copy & Paste tool...

Also, is your sonic screwdriver used as a melee weapon? Or is it just held as a melee weapon? :D

EDIT: It also seems the Nightmare realm mod is making the game crash, any suggestions?

Oh, if it is making the game crash, could I make the changes to the screwdriver, then simply uninstall the mod?

1. Do not 'enable' the nightmare realm unless you want to play it. You must have the required DLC to play it.
2. You file copy the nif to your other mods folder, where-ever they have their sonic screwdriver NIF file.
Mine is here:
\Fallout 3\Data\Meshes\WillieSea\NightmareRealm\Who\ClassicSonicS.nif

3. You then either rename my NIF file to the one used in the other mod, or use the GECK to point to my NIF (mesh) file instead.

You don't need to set the new texture paths as long as you keep my mod's texture folder installed. It will find it.
