Lucky Shades

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 1:58 pm

Im on a House or NCR playthrough. Havent decided yet. My problem is that I learned about the Lucky shdes in the Legion safehouse and now I must have them. I'm at the point where Ive upgraded the securitrons and won the boomers support, but I havent "given" the boomers to anyone yet. What Im trying to achieve is getting liked with the legion so I get the safehouse key form Lucious and, after that go anti legion all the way as NCR/House supporter.

Right now my reputation with the Legion is "Sneering punk" I forgot what I did to make it so after the mark of caesar. I know you can get Legion rep by turning in NCR dogtags at cottonwood cove and of course by questing for them. Ive noticed House doesnt mind when I help Legion or NCR, unlike Legion or NCR, that threaten me "Dont thread on the bear" ect.. when I help their oposition.

1.How much rep does turning dogtags in to the Legion get? Like to get from sneering punk to liked?
2.Will I fortfeit my NCR playthrough if I get liked with the Legion even if I dont act against the NCR directly? How far will House/NCR let me go, as I support Caesar until I get liked?

Im willing to go with Mr. House if its the only option left to me after I get liked with Legion for the shades, If NCR wont "take me back"

Im on PS3 BTW.

Thanks.

I have been trying to figure out a way to get those shades without being nice to the Legion. I don't think the key is on anyone, well, maybe Caesar and killing him is not an option for most of the game.

I don't think you have to do too many quests for the Legion to get the key, but since your rep with them is Sneering Punk, it might be harder.

The thing about reputations systems in New Vegas is that if you stray from the straight line Idolized or Vilified paths and get something like Sneering Punk or Unpredictable, it is very difficult to get rid of that small amount of good or bad rep. If you continue doing good things for the Legion then you will eventually end up with Wild Child without ever passing Liked.

A way I have heard of to get Liked reputation though, and I can't confirm the validity of this, is to where Caesar's Legion armour when you hand in the dogtags or do missions for them. You will get a Neutral rep with them which will not go away if you are recognized and you can build up to Liked from there. You can pickpocket the dogtags from NCR soldiers if you still want to do an NCR playthrough. On the wiki it said it would take 50 dogtags from Neutral to get to Liked, though you could do minor Legion quests to make it go by faster. You can use the NCR Ranger radio to get an endless supply of dogtags by calling someone in, pickpocketing them, sending them away, wait 24 hours and repeat.. The important thing is to not take off the Legion armour when you hand in the dogtags or do the missions. Taking the armour off will reset the reputation you have got so far, I'd suggest handing in all of the dogtags at once then.

I'm on the PC so if I'm not doing a Legion playthrough I'll just unlock the safehouse with console commands.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks! Lucious has the key BTW. YOu just have to be liked for him to give it to you.

You get the key from Lucius.
If you don't want to be nice to Legion and do quests for good rep the easiest way is to:
Sneak kill NCR trooper and take (or steal without killing) their dogtags - http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Arizona_Scavenger
Hand them into http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Aurelius_of_Phoenix one at a time (supposedly the fame doesn't stack) who is stationed at CottonCove - the big guy.
Once you get to either "Liked" or "Idolized" enter and leave the Tops.
Take the Mark of Caesar from Vulpes and go to the Fort via CottonCove and speak to Lucius who should be behind Caesar in his room.
He will - should - give you the key to the safehouse.

Sneak killing NCR and pickpocketing will not lose rep with them if you are successful, I recommend wiping out Forlorn Hope with the Ratslayer, I done it and lost no rep or karma ;)

I was in the same situation on my first playthrough and did not know the lucky shades were available until it was too late. Merely 250 hours of gameplay, meh... So, I just started over and became liked by the legion first to get the key. There is another lucky shade pair available other than this one but I'm a collector so I needed both. :)

There is only one set of Lucky Shades in New Vegas.
