Has anyone else done this?

So since NV has been out a while i have been getting bored with the first part of it (making it to New Vegas) i decided to add some stuff to those first quests. So instead of just going from town to town tracking benny, my player is going to make stops and meet tribes and train with them so by the time he gets to deal with benny he is a hardcoe warrior and it makes sense why. This will also provide a greater sense of accomplishment when i make it on the strip, and i think it would be cooler for it to take months to track benny down as opposed to weeks. I want to visit the powder gangers, BoS, great khans, and kings. and maybe the followers. So i was wondering if anyone else has done this and maybe if anyone could recommend some more factions to visit.

Of course. I rarely (actually never) follow the main quest - I do my own thing until there's nothing left to do, then I start the main quest.

Back in the Fallout 3 days when I was a complete newby I couldn't even figure out how to do the main quest until I got to lvl 12, and it worked out fine :) 3 more playthroughs later and I still love dem Fallout games.

Yes I agree, the journey to finding this guy will be a long one. I am currently helping the people along the way with my speech and persuasion and helping out the locals with medical supplies, though I avoid quarrels as much as possible, I relized the Legion has got to go. They are not but trouble and wreak Havoc. I see hope for the Khans, they're just drug users that wish to escape the apocalyptic reality they are facing.

I am currently with Boone and I am seeking Medical attention myself due to stepping onto a mine that resulted in the crippling of my leg, Boone has my back by helping me find some kind of treatment for it.
