So umm... Confuzzlement

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 4:53 pm

I picked up Morrowind very recently and then immediately picked up the MGSO. ( So nice BTW ) And I'm crazy loving it. Explored a true dwemer ruin and ran into a woman who wanted me to track down a bandit so she could live happily ever after... but um... I hate to admit this... I have no idea what to do for any quest. (I mean beyond the basic, go slay an animal in someones house) I've gotten so used to the damn compass saying go here do this... and I have no idea where the bandit I'm supposed to find... or the person I agreed to look for... its just so confusing and difficult. Anyway to make this transition easier on me?

If someone asks you to do something they should tell you where to go. If you don't remember you should check your journal.

If you've got the GOTY version, all dialogue you've had will show up in your journal, and you can check for directions that way. If not, you've still got the quest section, and hopefully some NPC will've given you directions. Also, if you're really stuck, http://www.uesp.net/maps/mwmap/mwmap.shtml helps a lot.

Wild guess: If the woman you ran into was between Pelagiad and Balmora she wants you to find a dark elf in the Pelagiad Halfway Inn.

To helping the transition I can′t add anymore... read what they say and if they don′t give specifics it′s meant to be difficult (I sometimes refer to walkthroughs in this case since I HATE searching for stuff endlessly)

Yep, the journal tells all. 99% of the time, the journal will tell you where to go. The game should've come with a paper map too to help you along if you haven't filled in the map yet. Once you get used to not having your hand held, it's pretty fun.

Bonus tip: Talk to every scout and savant NPC about all the locations they have available as topics. They will mark your map with the location. It will especially help starting off if you talk to Elone and the nord standing beside her in Arrille's Tradehouse in Seyda Neen. In Balmora, there's a scount in the Fighter's Guild and I think another at the Hlaalu headquarters.

Boat captains and caravaners can also mark places on your map if you ask about destinations.

You can toggle the menu map between local and world view. That should allow you to either see some detail around you, or get an overview of where you are.

Ask around Pelagiad, several of the towns people will have some information on the subject.

If you know the name of the person or the quest then ask the UESP website http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Morrowind if you are really stuck.

Just explore mate, read the journal entries, head to where you think you should go and look around. I found it very hard during my first levels, with many many reloads. Howevere, now I'm a bit more experienced things are easier and I really appreciate all the hard work I had to go through earlier.

Best advice is to read people's directions as you'll nearly always be given them. If you end up blundering about in the ash wastes getting attacked by hordes of cliff racers while you're trying to find where you need to go, it just adds to the fun!

It never hurts to make notes as people speak. While the journal is good in this respect (at least, one you've got GOTY or the add-ons separately), there's little hand-holding. You won't have a compass that shows a single quest object you need to go for, so it pays to be careful. :)
