Oblivion GOTY: won't regognize cd most of the time in WINEub

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 4:11 am

I'm using ubuntu, and played Oblivion GOTY through Wine a bit, but then it just stopped working, won't find the cd anymore.
I tried to download a crack (since i have bought this and i really want to play it), but can't load my savegames or start a new one. Nothing happens on the main screen.
I tried to look on WINEhq, and it seems that Oblivion should work fully on wine 1.3xx (which i have).
My system won't even show the cd anywhere, i tested my cd-drive with other games that shuoldn't even work in ubuntu, but it recognized them.

What am i missing? It won't recognize the cd because of securom or what? I wouldn't want to spend money on windows 7 just to play one game..

You really shouldn't mention cracks here since it's the dev's site.

Anyway, are you using Wine's automatic CD detection or did you set up a CD drive in Wine?

Automatic detection i guess? Since it don't even show the cd on Ubuntu's file manager. Show's that my cd drive is empty. I have to eject it few times and then it might "see" it. I tested the cd on my girlfriends pc with windows 7, it recognized it, installed it and everything run as it should in the game.

I have had this same problem with few GOTY/Gold edition games, Civ 4 Complete for example has the same. Morrowind GOTY works fine tho.

If it is not recognizing some discs at all then I wouldn't rule out a faulty drive.

If Ubuntu isn't detecting the disk at all, then the drive or the disk is probably damaged.
