large scale battles

I really think that this would be a grand edition to the series especially at climix/ important parts in the story
hopefully the new engine can handle something like this..
because lets face it I've seen more people in bar fights then the "large scale" battles in Oblivion :snoring:

Well, I would want this, but the problem is that you will probaby kill more of your allies than the enemy. Then you have two armies both wanting you dead. And I dont think your insurance covers that.

While I agree with you that large scale battles would be nice its sort of impossible for many computers to handle it if the quality is supposed to remain as good as former TES games have had it...

It would be nice seeing 200 guys fighting against each other with Oblivion graphics, better animations, awesome armour, nice warcries and then have yourself able to join as you want to... But its just a dream with todays technology (I hate todays technology at times...)...

I agree the techology is kind of a huge step to ask for something like that
but it could be done if the combat system were improved apon and it wasn't just a bunch of hacking and slashing

You should also test Mount and Blade. Big scale battles, nice graphics, interesting stories and quests, lots of nice mods and overall "good". Ofcourse it and TES are on different islands, so to say. TES is a RPG, MnB is a medieval war′n′life thing... Or something.

Well either they improve it or they take out anything large scale in general because i found that it was kindof anticlimatic in the way they developed in the previous game

Battle of Bruma was so disappointing. What was supposed to be large scale conflict turned out to be little more than a dozen or soldiers fighting each other.

I would like battles with a true sense of scale. But if it cant be done right, better not to have it at all.

I hope they manage to avoid any need for "large battles" in the storyline. Its a single-player game and more than a few opponents doesn't make any sense. At best you'd have to become a spectator, and I prefer to play, rather than watch, my game.

If you want large battles, go watch a movie instead.

Besides which Mount & Blade is built almost exclusively around combat, and one of its main selling points is the large battles involved. The entire game's design and its engine are both structured specifically around providing that sort of thing, whereas the TES series generally isn't.

That's not to say that this can't be done, but I really wouldn't expect it unless it's something they'd been planning from earlier on. Large battles aren't the sort of thing you can do by just tossing in more NPCs and expecting it to work.

It could be done, but I think they'd need to disable any non-combat AI during the battle, use mostly non unique NPC's (guards/imperial legion, no named NPC's) and have a more streamlined engine. Then I think it could be done.

Of course then there's the issue of rampant friendly fire. But if npc's and creatures didn't move frantically (going from 0 to full speed in no time), arrows and magic didn't move so slow, and the melee combat was more sophisticated than hacking and slashing, it would actually be fun to play. And then there's the AI that should prevent everyone from piling up into one big heap.

Well I think battles of the scale of M & B are out of the question but even Battles of the size 20 vs 20 would be lots of fun. But as said before first a strong improvment of "collectiv AI" is needed. Wolfs that act like a team, sourrounding the player. A group of bandits protecting a wounded comrade, hiding behind traps or shouting (and actualy doing it) Drop your Dagger and get a Hammer this guy is in heavy armor!" ^^ A military group using formations etc. Then after implementing a basic group AI bigger battles could follow and be lots of fun.
