PLEASE Remake Older TES Games

As far as I'm concerned, modders have already practically remade Morrowind. It looks just as good as Skyrim, much fuller/detailed/fixed etc.

Yes, they've remade Morrowind with better graphics, more landmass, more quests, more items, more dialog, more of everything in general than the later games, and better....but the animations are still pretty nasty, and combat still looks primitive.

It's a "better character-based RPG" by far, especially with 10 years of modding behind it, but still a poorer "combat/adventure" game, which is what Bethesda seems to be pushing toward in the newer installments of the series. It just pains me that they can't retain anything more than token elements of the former, while improving the latter.

As the demographic ages, there's a need for BOTH aspects: the older gamers demand more "depth", while having less time to actually experience it. Shortucts, like "optional" fast travel, exploits, "easy approaches" to problems, etc., are needed to allow both impulsive and time-constrained players to get to the parts they like, while still allowing the more thoughtful and "strategic" forms of play that characterize the "experienced" advlt player who doesn't care how long it takes, as long as it's "good".

Skyrim is an example of catering heavily to the one element of their fanbase, while essentially telling the other element "you don't matter anymore". It's not about remaking old games, it's about bringing back the overall style of gameplay that they offered, but updated and modified so that it doesn't clash with the newer styles.

If this could be done without taking too many resources away from new project development, it would be great. Even just some graphics updates, bug fixes (Daggerfall) would make them worth buying (for a reasonable price) for me. Alas, I don't think it would be too simple to do this, because the world of 'modular', Direct x/open GL, etc programming concepts. was not likely utitilized by Bethesda Softworks when designing these games. And from what I've heard, they say the Daggerfall/Arena original code/engine is "lost" in Oblivion or something along those lines.

I hope one day Daggerfall XL is finished; supposedly they are getting pretty close.

this is a completely irrational request that will never happen. devs don't just do stuff like this, sorry, and the few times it has happened it was for a reason or a special occasion. i'd rather them focus on new content and games, not rehash old games.

ive never played morrowind or any other tes other than skyrim an a lil oblvivion before i knew wot the game really was about. i took oblivion back due to poor ps3 graphics not really knowing just how old the game is anyway after like 10 mins of play lol. ( il probably pick up goty at some point now tho) im not young either just i never heard of this genre an game an often played on the megadrive an then xobx an not pc when i was 10-15ish an never ever got introduced to tes games on later consoles either. however i would now love to play the older games but just cant bring myself to actually buy them an play them when the graphics are not up to todays standards it just isnt an enjoyable experience looking at a pixelated screen on a nice hdtv it kinda ruins the general gaming experience for me.

now there are a few old games that were out for ps1 that have now been remastered an remade with newer fresher graphics one game i recently bought was ico an shadow of collosus this game i played ico( but not soc) when first released several times an loved it, i bought it now an its actually even better than i could have wished it to be, the updated graphics an gameplay make it an really enjoyale experience to replay even after all these years so i dont know why the same wouldnt apply to the tes games. oh an its in 3d, not that i have a 3d tv but i cant wait to replay it in 3d one day even though its a lil gimmicky. id buy remakes of all tes games if they were ever made so i could experience wot ive missed out on so far just in the full glory of hd with todays graphic capabilities, it would make for a much more compelling experience than if i were to go out an buy ports or just older versions of the tes games an run them on wotever system i can.

Please do not remake older TES games. They're great the way they are, and I'd much rather the time and effort and money be spent on new content. I don't want to live in the past.

While i'd like to see Bethesda return more to the style of their older games, I wouldn't want direct remakes.

If they decide to revist High Rock/Hammerfell or Morrowind as settings at some point in the future, they should feel like new games.
This.
My main reason is that it would lose it's feeling.
Daggerfall has around 487,000 square kilometers and thousands of dungeons, cities, towns and villages.
This is one very important aspect of it which can't be executed for now (they would need to hand craft an area which is twice the size of Great Brittan).
Not to mention that lot would be lost in order to please console-tards.
Similar with Arena.

What can be done is to release remastered versions of those games instead of remade ones, but there is already a fan-made project called DaggerXL doing that, so there is no need for Bethesda to do that.

If Bethesda wants to remake an old game of theirs, I think that they should remake Redguard.
It's an action-adventure, so I think that they can remake it without anything which made that game special being lost while pleasing today generation players.
Just like I posted in 'Beyond Skyrim' thread, this is how I think Bethesda release timeline should look like:
TES V > FO 4 > Redguard Remake > FO 5 > TES VI > FO 6 > TES VII

There's only one or two situations in which a game is remade.

1)Company is so greedy as to remake a game only a few years old for the pure purpose of milking cash out of people desperate for the exact same game with a new menu and a few bells. *cough, cough, Halo*

2)A series has had its last couple of games so badly recieved that it has to go back to the very first one for an 'anniversary edition' ie: Tomb Raider, after Revelations, the reviews got worse and only the remake of Tomb Raider rekicked the the series.

3)Company has no original idea left.

No remake, just revisiting the old provinces or cameo appearances in a new game is much better.

Here's a better idea: Make TES VI and expand the TES universe further instead of wasting time recreating old games. Who doesn't want to see what happens next? If you want to play the old games, just svck it up and enjoy it with terrible graphics.

They could add a Deagric realm to compensate for the small size of High Rock.

I don't really agree with any of your suggestions necessarily, but you can always use whatever scale you want. Just because 100 miles in Nirn = 1 km in Oblivion, or Skyrim, or whatever the game/conversion might be doesn't mean that it needs to remain consistent throughout the series. A gameworld three times the size of Oblivion could easily be developed if High Rock were to be where the next game took place.

I have a feeling it's going to do with Southern Morrowind/Black Marsh. A game with the Morrowind Mainland combined with Black Marsh would be amazing.

Games have done it, look at Halo anniversary. I'm not sure what kind of success it would have though. I'd get them if they were made, simply because I want to know more about TES and I've only been playing since oblivion. I never experienced the apparent glory days of TES, I mean the game I love is scolded by these fellows, would love to experience the love they once had

You can. Take a look at MGSO for Morrowind if you have a PC with at least decent specs and you won't even be able to use the graphics, sounds, or animations excuse.

From another thread regarding the same subject:
Morrowind doesn't need to be remade. It's great as it is. Same goes for Daggerfall.

Bethesda should spend their time making new games and exploring new regions of the Elder Scrolls universe, not retracing their steps just for the satisfaction of a few of their fans. TES is not Halo; the lifeblood of this series lies in its lore, and if the lore stagnates, so will the series' following.
