you dont need to go to Mournhold to get them to stop attacking you.
Right, the attacks stop when you talk to Apelles Matius in Ebonheart, about transport to the mainland.

The play was fun. and you dont need to go to Mournhold to get them to stop attacking you.
Yeah, the play was fun - but for a level 1 character, getting attacked with a Daedric Dai-Katana will either cause you to restart the game or become overpowered.

And thanks for telling me that, I always went to Mournhold just to be sure - I'll do that from now on :)

Daedric Dai-Katana? Do you have some sort of mod, cause they've always had leveled weapons for me. Get attacked at level 1, they had like an iron dagger or something like that.

I was quite surprised when my character woke up with an assassin by his side the first time!

But now he′s on Solstheim and I guess it′s too cold for them there so they just "Ah, heck with it"

The attacks actually start to stop or become less frequent as you keep killing assassins, or you could just get attacked, talk to a guard and etc etc

For my characters, the attacks have always continued at the same level regardless of how many of the pesky twits my characters killed, until they reached a certain point in the main quest.

No mods, just a guy with a Daedric Wakizashi. Had to whip out a Storm Atronach scroll to get out of it. Check out the http://uesp.net/wiki/Tribunal:A_Star_is_Born.

as everyone else has stated, it's because of Tribunal.

and the Dark Brotherhood assassins are an excellent way to exploit the system and gain a ridiculous amount of money (since their armor and weapons are usually worth a respectable amount).

Or reach Solstheim. I have never progressed through the MQ but since I got to the frozen island the attacks have siezed completely.

Tribunal Expansion. Although it′s rather strange to be attacked at level 1, I was usually attacked around level 8

if you have the console version it's delayed, the pc version lacked it (though not hard to mod in)

I got mine modded to not start till level 6 figuring by then I'd have made a name for myself

Try being a relatively high level character in the vanilla game equipped with ebony armor, etc, installing the Tribunal expansion and then resting for the first time.
I got slaughtered by the two...yes two ninjas that turned up.

If you uncheck the Tribunal.esm file in the Data files, then no DBA until you recheck it. It doesn't require a mod.
