Jack Irons song inspired by Morrowind?

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 12:10 am

So was recently listening to a Jack Irons song with a friend when this tune came on and sounded remarkably familiar. its http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVWFoRKEL5M and it seems to me to play part of the morrowind main theme. I figured i would share this with you and see if anyone else has noticed this before and what yo guys thought.

I hear a bit of it at 1:50 or so. Not surprising actually as both works are influenced by Celtic/tribal music.

Other than that what can I say? Find a music piece that isn't influenced by another.

Being a musician myself I could never possibly expect for someone to grow up in a void of sound and therefore not be influenced by anything before them that would be foolish I merely thought that this was cool considering
- it is the exact same melody line akin to a sample
- at approximately the same tempo
- and even possibly the same key though my ear is not the best in regards to precise tonality

I am just a fan of Iron's work and when i heard this thought it was neat and wanted to share it with others and figured "Hey maybe the people on the elder scrolls forum would enjoy this, they have always shared interesting stuff with me!"

...but instead of sharing a song by a respected musician I get an arrogant response about Celtic music and inspiration.

THANKS! For reminding me why after being a member of the forums for more than three years I choose to scan topics instead of post logging less than 100 total posts.
I feel like I lost a few years and ended back up in high school. But I guess that’s what internet forums are for to feel smart and important. :brokencomputer:

...How the hell was that arrogant in any way? I thought his response was perfectly legitimate. You're seeming like the ass in this situation.

Hey Funk Rock. It is interesting song indeed.

Please don't consider me an arrogant, this is a bit of a fact, and my opinion: there are 3 similar notes that correspond to Morrowind's (the first 3 of the main tune, to be more exact). More than TES soundtrack, I sooner related it to Dreamwork's theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuMHaXr4Vxg .

by no means do i find you arrogant and what i find arrogant about the first post was the last line. a quip about not finding music inspired about other music with a peppy smile after it is not just stating a fact.

yeah its celtic and thats all cool its just the last line that seems a bit smug.

i agree on the dreamworks theme never noticed that before i guess i notioced Irons first because it also relies on a strong rythm section same sort of overall vibe kind of tribal feeling

I'm not quite understanding your tirade here...

If you find another member's post that distressing, then report it to a moderator if you feel it warrants such feelings of being "bullied" instead of slinging inflammatory mud and digressing the topic.

As far as this particular track I see very little similarities, but then I'm not a musician and my ear may not be as sensitive as yours. As far as Jack Irons, I loved what he did with Pearl Jam, not his latest works so much.

Personally, all I hear is the first three notes of a minor scale, then brought back down to the tonic. I don't think it's that uncommon.

Miles, you didn't do anything wrong. If anything, you sounded like you were agreeing with him. I don't think it has anything to do with Morrowind, but as a Pearl Jam fan, I'm happy Funk brought this music to our attention. I like it! Funk's paranoia and anger probably came from a history of people being nasty to him. Unfortunately, the overreaction to something that wasn't an attack might explain why he's treated so badly by trolls. I think the point we can take from all this is... wouldn't it be nice to see elder scrolls referenced in popular music? The fact that people get excited when they hear a few similar notes in an otherwise entirely different piece tells me that someone needs to write and record a song that's influenced by Morrowind. Any musicians on this board that want to make a stab at that?

Sure, I'd help. Personally, I think the g b# c b# d c of the theme is much more recognizable than the beginning.
