Beautiful Morrowind

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 1:24 am

So Morrowind is probably my favorite Elder Scrolls game (or at least the one I have spent the most time playing) though I never really played any mods for it since I mostly played it on xbox then the main quest on PC. I just installed it on ubuntu and I am looking to make it look better. I like the aethetic of the game so I am not looking to drastically change it, just to increase the resolution/number of polygons and retexture to things that are just improved versions of what is already there.

TL;DNR: What mods should I get to make Morrowind pretty but keep the aesthetic (running on ubuntu so any graphics enhancing .exes might be out of the question)

these two and st juib's high res armor textures a bit further down in the forums right now would be a good start.

Just the type of stuff I'm looking for. Thanks! Do you happen to know of any for character models? The faces and hair are probably my biggest concerns.

better bodies is a great one,
also I just installed MGE(Morrowind Graphics extender), MWSE(Morrowind script extender), and MGSO( Morrowind Graphics and sound overhaul) all of which make the world look better and at the same time do not take away from the original feel of the game.
*edit*
better heads, better beast bodies and I think there are a couple of choices for those as well. The only other mod I would Recommend is Galsiahs Character Development. There are also some Texture replacers for armor and weapons ( I am using Darknuts) that increase the resolution of the items to give them more detail without taking anything away from the original look.

Note that MWSE and MGE, AFAIR, don't work under WINE, so you can't enjoy some eyecandy and game enhancements.

Make sure that after you install Better Bodies, you grab this hi-res texture http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6825. It only applies to females, but it's good to have nonetheless.

Use http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7039&id=5635 before that one, as it covers the male bodies and hands as well.

I've talked with Kingpix and Papill6n about a light version of the MGSO without any tools or mods depending of MCP and MGE, so it could work on mac/linux. It can be done, it is just a matter of making a fine selection of mods.

To Tonal Architect: there is a male high res texture mod for BB somewhere around, but only for naked models. Papill6n has made the clothed version for the french MGSO.

Edit : RaveBlack found it. :)

That's why I mentioned I am using Ubuntu/WINE is that I figured some of the better tools would be unavailable.
Thanks you to everyone who's posted so far, starting a nice collection of mods that will likely continue to grow over time.
