I would just like to now if the ps3 version of Oblivion has the same issues as Skyrim. Does it lag/freeze?

Nope, no lag bar a small jump on autosaving. Looks amazing too if you play it on a decent tv.

No, but there are some serious bugs. (Such as not being able to cure vampirism.)

In the few hundred hours I spent on the Ps3 version, I did have some freezing, but nothing unreasonable. Certainly nothing compared to what I've heard you guys are experiencing with Skyrim.

Oblivion was ported to the PS3 by a different company who acutally knew what they were doing, and its version of the engine comes from an era before the save file size problem developed. So no, there is no lag and very little freezing (with the exception of when large numbers of people are in combat, at which point it will lag).

Pretty much what has been said, Oblivion was ported by another company so there is no save file bug, my 300 hour save file is underneath 5MB, hardly any lag usually when you have allot of enemies in the field but it's hardly noticeable , and in my 1000+ hours of play time my game has not crashed not even once. The only serious bug is the vampire glitch that does not let you get cured if you have Shivering Isles installed.

There are ways around the vamparism cure bug. You're only screwed if you have the American GOTY edition.

I have the GOTY version, and I had no problems with it on the PS3. Never became a vampire, so I don't know about that problem.

I have the game now and all i gotta say is... that it svcks. The lag in this game may not turn progressively worse as in Skyrim, but the framerate is constantly pretty bad. It lags always when i turn arond and it lags in every city. The thing that annoys me the most is however the controls, mainly the looking with right anolog stick. It's not even anolog! There's only two speeds, extremely slow and too fast. It makes the game feel constantly sticky and it's driving me mad. Is there any way to fix this?
As a minor complaint, all the characters are ugly and act like wood, and no one has a beard. The game is trying to take itself seriously, but it has loads of unintentional humor.

From what he's describing, I think something is wrong. Yes, some lagging is fine. You can adjut your character's response to the controls, so that will fix the too fast I hope. We always tinker with the control settings a little. Some of the fight response is too quick.

My own games have problems when there are other issues going on with the Xbox. (yes, I know you're on PS3) Have you installed the game to hard drive? You should do that- forgive me if you have and said so.

If your machine's drive is near full, or if you're playing all kinds of other memory hog games, that will impair performance also.

PS. the game is more than worth getting into. If the cosmetic issues are too much for you, I'm sorry. The graphics are still considered very good. Seriously, the most complaints I hear about them come from the hardware junkies on these forums who put too many eggs into the basket of how it looks before they can let go and play.

Ps3 version doesn't install to the hard drive.

The game runs great on my Ps3, much smoother then Skyrim. Only occasional lag when "Loading next area" but its just a split second hitch. And It's never locked up compared to the numerous hard freezes on Skyrim (stopped counting at 30).

Thank you, I didn't know that.

So he shouldn't be experiencing any significant lag and the movement can be adjusted. Sounds like a personal view, then.

The lag was maybe not significant... but i'm used to play games that run at least 30 fps constantly. Less makes my head hurt.

Those things are horribly unique. I had a lot of problems with my copy of Pblivion for ps3, half of the quest marks weren't there, location-connected freezing (for example common problem was not being able to get Umbra because entering the cell caused freezing and it happened for like 2 out of 3 characters, another common freezing occurs just after grabbing the sigil stone which doesn't happen 1/5 times).

This being said, I had no problems with Skyrim, whatsoever.
