System problem - really sorry, this has been flogged to deat

Hey guys, I hope someone can help. I have a:

2009 samsung laptop,

windows 7 64 bit,

celeron dual core processor 2.1GHz.

"mobile intel ® 4 series express chipset family" display adaptor - I assume this is the graphics card?

Morrowind and Oblivion played with no problems.

Fallout 3 - 2nd disc won't load but I suspect that is unrelated to my main issue.

Once I have installed the first disc and select "new game" the game crashes - "Fallout 3 has stopped working".

Looking at several posts on the subject maybe my graphics card is the problem - is this the case - if so, can one replace the card on a laptop - some people have said yes but the guys at PC world say its impossible on a laptop - so I'm not sure.

The weird thing was, I ran a program that should tell if a particular game should run by anolyzing the computer - it says that the problem is the processor (too slow) and the graphics card - but it said exactly the same thing when I entered "oblivion" - oblivion worked on the same system with no issues!!

I have updated the display adaptor driver (actually no update was needed), made some changes to the specs in the forum 3 subfolder suggested in another thread on the same subject - nothing helps. I keep hearing that you need an independent video card with its own RAM - as opposed to one that is integrated with the rest of the system - but I don't know which mine is!!

If anyone can help Id be grateful - if the solution is to buy a new laptop, which specs should I go for to ensure that games like skyrim amd fallout work well?

Thanks.

Your video solution, the Intel integrated chipset is too weak to run Fallout. And in 99.99% of laptops it is impossible to add in a new video card. There is a modified .dll file floating around that will force the game to run on your hardware, but it is not recommended since it could cause damage to your hardware or OS install.

Sites that tell you how well your PC can run a game are usually very inaccurate.

It would be best if you are able to buy or build a new computer to run the game.

The minimum system requirements are located on the back of the box the game came in. If your system does not meet or exceed the minimum requirements, nothing you do will get the game to run properly.

Yes that does seem like common sense - unfortunately I did not know how "mobile intel 4 series express chipset family" compared to the video card recommended - its not like there is a standard quantifier that enables one to compare the strength of different cards.

I agree with you, however the minimum processer is listed as 2.4 GHz and your processor is a 2.1 GHz. This should have alerted you to the fact that you would have a problem running this game. The system requirements also state that you need a video card, not an intregated chip. The fact that you can run other games is no indication that you can run Fallout3.

OK thanks, had no idea mine was an integrated chip. When I get a new laptop, what specs would you recommend to be able to play these games properly?

Must you get a laptop? Desktops are much more suited for games, both in price and performance. What price range are you looking at? Also, if you decide on a desktop, would you be willing to build it yourself?
