[WIPz] Gnomad Ranch & some pun filled resources

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 2:08 am

My nephew began pestering asking me to finish up a house mod for him that I mentioned awhile ago, and this is the fruit of my labor. I know, House Mod 12,472, but I don't like many of the ones available and I enjoy making mods, I just rarely release them. However, ChuckSteel / CEVSteel gave me an awesome gnome resource to use for the mod, so I figured I'd put it out for the community. It's 99% done, and I plan on releasing it in a week or so; I still need to tweak the lighting and fine tune a few things, but wanted to put on a WIPz thread to see if anyone in the community has any decent input ideas. Here's a workup of the Readme - and sceenshots should be at the end of the post.

::: Short Description :::
===========================
This mod adds a player house a little ways south by south east of New Vegas. There are a bunch of neat features and lots of collectibles. Plus a creepy/punny/mildly entertaining backstory. I primarily made this mod for my nephew, since he just picked up New Vegas + DLC, and his requests have all been implemented. I normally don't upload my mods, but since CevSteel made me some awesome gnome nifs as a resource I figured I'd share my creations to the public. This mod requires the 4 DLC packs. If you don't have them, it won't work right. I won't be making a DLC free version, sorry.

I don't like most house mods, and usually make my own. A few personal requirements are;
a) Feature rich environment - Lots of stuff to do while home.
:cool: Conservative layout - No sprawling hallways or useless rooms.
c) Logical Idea - I want everything to fit in, and nothing to stick out like a sore thumb.
d) Storage - Organized storage spaces, without devoting lots of real esate for a football field armory. 8)

::: Details & Features :::
============================
- An advanced player house with many features everyone is sure to enjoy.
- Pun filled laughs and chortles!
- Well decorated, but not fully furnished, so it's up to you to fill the displays and cabinets!
- Master bed gives the well rested bonus.
- Lots of Mojave and New Vegas Radios to listen to.
- Tons of labeled storage, for obsessive people who enjoy order.
- Snow Globe Stand with room to accomodate all 11 globes.
- Disguise kit in the master bathroom, to easily change your appearance.
- Barber's kit in the master bathroom, for when you want "yer hare did."
- Ammo bench for all your reloading needs.
- Work bench for all your crafting needs.
- Repair machine to repair your gear with your own repair skill.
- Cook on a stove or with a hotplate.
- Purify all of your dirty water.
- Working Taps for Beer, Nuka Cola, and Sunset Sarsapariila
- Cold Night? Light up the fireplace.
- Doctor's Bags and Infirmary kits can heal all wounds.
- Chemistry and Lab sets for the inner-nerd in us all.
- Garden and Trees with plenty of items to Harvest.
- Turn on the irrigation system.
- Pickable Apple, Pear, and Mutfruit Trees.
- Shooting Range with 50+ targets, all reset to their spots with the touch of a button.
- Lots of collectable items.
- Working Porch, Spot, and Flood Lights.
- Torches around the perimeter to help you find your way home in Fellout Nights

::: Things Worth Mentioning :::
==============================
- I don't like sorting scripts, I think they're lazy and I want to sort things my way. I won't be adding any, sorry.
- This mod adds a free house, assuming you can pick a very hard lock. If you want to work/pay for it, Role Play it. I've finished playing New Vegas so adding a Quest isn't on my list.
- I took out some features that seemed more of a hindrance than benefit, so no plans to add things like indoor Light Switches, secret Vault, or free items.
- The house has some decorations, but is 100% furnished. This is so there is a reason to take spoons, weapons, trophies, etc.
- The containers are empty since I wanted a clean slate house.
- The trash cans respawn. Don't put valuable items in the trash.
- I've used a few people's resources for this mod. They'll all be fully credited in the actual readme/mod release.

If anyone has any good ideas on stuff to add I'm all ears. That's more the focal point of this thread, to see if there's something cool I've left out that would add to the mod.

Gotta ask yourself, what makes this unique, special, different from the 12k other house mods? By the looks of it not much, but it looks good none the less.

Since you asked, I don't like any of the other house mods out there that I've downloaded. That doesn't mean they're not great, just that I don't care for them. As stated, I don't normally release mods, and am only doing so since CevSteel was beyond gracious enough to make a community resource at my request, which let me create the quirky / interesting part of this mod - the back story. If I was just using premade resources, I would just release it to friends/family/etc, like the other 99% of my mods. Generally, I hate dealing with people online, since many are self entitled idiots who can't be bothered to read more than 3 lines of text. I prefer to be self entitled in real life, and charge a rather large consultants fee when I am forced to actually handle customers. :biggrin:

And in case my tone is off, please take any comments perceived as rude as a heavy dose of satire.

Beyond that, I haven't found one that lets me: (Also, I'm sure there are plenty of mods that have these features, but I haven't found one that fit my tastes)

a. Harvest Potatoes, Apples, Carrots, Mutfruit, and Pears.
b. Lets me change my characters haircuit whenever I want
c. Lets me change me appearance whenever I want (plastic surgery)
d. Has storage in a manner that pleases me
e. Actually feels like a house, not a super-mega-ultra-cool bank, armory, and impenetrable fortress.
f. Isn't a high tech marvel of old world technology, but is just a house with the features you'd expect someone with no job, good aim, and a lot of post apocalyptic time on their hands to want from their home.

Unlike almost any other mod, I don't think House mods require

Personally, unlike most other types of mods, I don't think house mods need to "explain" themselves or anything. Player housing is probably the single most "personal" thing in the game, and it makes sense for people to have a lot of options. I can tell you that not a single one of the top 100 house mods appeals to me.
