How's the VARIETY in Quests Compared to Fallout 3?

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 2:02 am

I'm giving NV another shot after having bought the Ultimate Edition. I dodn;t remmeber much at all baout the game. In 3, you ran into Faux Superheroes fighting each other, Giant Ant Queens, Robots thinking they're the founding fathers, Blowing up a town with a Nuclear Bomb, etc.

How do you think New Vegas holds up in terms of varied quests?

New Vegas has a lot of intersting side quests although the majority are fetch type quests. I'd give the edge to New Vegas in the side quest department but not by much.

And I disagree with Terror of Death, most of the quests in New Vegas are not dull fetch quests, but they are interesting quests with multiple solutions based on your skills, morally gray choices, and a depth in writing that you'll never find in Fallout 3. The same goes for all of the DLCs and their quests, in fact there are arcing story lines that cross multiple DLCs as well as the base game, which is another thing that sets New Vegas apart from Fallout 3.

New Vegas has far more unmarked quests and marked quests. It also has companion related quests. There is also a greater amount of options in how to do all those quests.

Ha ha.. Tycho. That is awesome 8)

Anyways, I feel like Fallout New Vegas had better side quests and had a very interesting storyline. And their is multiple ways of ending some of them rather than good vs bad. I would also recommend the ultimate edition for the great DLC's

Fallout 3 had more repetitive quests about finding something and giving it to the guy, over and over again which was fun.
Vegas has millions and millions of quests, most of which are interesting and fun to do, but i kinda feel that many rewards you get in the quests are not worth it. Hell i could make more money of raiding a few Viper and Jackal camps, then doing most of the quests in the south side of the Mojave.

Quest rewards have almost always been inferior to what you can get from looting the dead, so it's not exactly fair to pan quests based on lackluster rewards. That does depend on the quest to a certain extent, though, as the reward should generally be commensurate with the difficulty/length/both of the quest. In addition, if quest rewards were always better than looting there wouldn't be much incentive to loot, which is just as bad.

To answer the OP's question: New Vegas has many more quests than FO3, albeit the same general types thereof, along with more ways to complete a given quest. There is also no one 'superior' choice in how to complete a given quest, save as dictated by the type of character one is currently playing.

Im talking about all the cap quests that, alot of the time, dont pay many caps. I wouldnt say that the value of loot should justify the amount of caps you get for a quest.

I think that for a regular wastelander its lots of caps im thinking of the van graffs' ones in particular. Because not everyone can kill but loads of raiders without dying, loot their remains, and do all of the miles beetween the fight and the nearest merchant with all of the weaponsa and armor.

To the OP: Youll find a lot more quests in Vegas, though most of them will feel like a chore if good writing is not what you look for in a game, though there are some cool quests like the ones for the van graffs, or we are legion or the garrets quests(in one of them you become a robots and a ghouls pimp).

I will agree with the Writing, definitely better then Fallout 3. Although Fallout 3 had some interesting side quests just not as good as New Vegas though. Fallout 3's strength is more in it's open world then anything.

Quantity does not mean Quality, I already know that there are way more quests in NV, what I want to know if if the things you do in them are as varied and unique as they are in Fallout, or maybe better. Do they have consequences? Will I be recognized for them? (Unlike certain games' quests coughskyrimcough)

Oh boy will they. Look, almost anything you do in the New Vegas quests have consequences, Hell New Vegas is known for its consequences. Many small sidequests dont really have that much, but you can still do something that affects the game world and improves it. All New Vegas quests are worth doing, keep that in mind.

So many quests and locations it's ridicioulous!!!

The only thing is, you can't do the battle of hoover dam unless you want the game to end. That stinks, they should have let you do the battle and then still be able to do everything else.

so what I'm doing now is, I'm visiting all the locations before I start the battle. There are a million things to do...

Yeah, Fallout 3 was more about exploration than anything, whereas New Vegas was more about quests, dialogue, and story.

Well, I didn't make it myself; I stole the link from another member. :ninja:

Well, at least some of those extra quests are fetch quests and dummy quests, to be honest. But there's almost always an interesting story wrapped around the fetch quests. Based on your questions I think you might like FNV a lot more than FO3.

Return to Fallout: New Vegas
