The Perils of Thuum

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 11:11 am

I was watching yodelling videos on youtube with some friends, when one said; "Wasn't it a form of communication in the mountains?"

Maybe. Whatever, we are little drunk. But it got me thinking.

Thuum masters and diciples as we know them spend their lives on the moutains, practising thuum; intensely powerful forces of sound. Picture over the ages, all those gifted Nords shouting and shouting and shouting, on top the highest mountain in the world. Surely this is a very irreponsible thing! Have there been records of avalanches? The Greybeards wouldn'y even know, probably, but the poor helpless villages below, wiped off the map.

Who knows how many people have died over the years because of this.

I remember reading that the villages surrounding the Throat-of-the-World were evacuated when Young Talos/Hjalti/Tiber went up there to meet the greybeards.

It's been noted several times that the most powerful users have to cease speaking or even gag themselves to keep from killing people just by talking to them; they've learned through long experience how to control their use to keep from hurting anyone. I haven't heard anything of avalanches, but the tremors that occur when one of them says "Dovahkiin" in the game could probably trigger something like that - they just try and make sure to keep from doing that in a place that could cause trouble.

Hmmm... I'll bet that's what happened to the city of Snowhawk. :D
