Please let these MMO rumors be a joke. That would just ruin the whole Elder Scrolls experience.

This is sad news indeed. The thought of millions of "leet kids" running aroung in Tamriel, screaming insults at eachother and older players. *shudders*
Won't be too much of an issue. The older players would never buy it in the first place. I sure as hell wouldn't. Who cares what the "leet kids" do then?

To be entirely honest, I'd be surprised if this rumor going around isn't Zenimax's idea of testing the waters. Hopefully, they'll see how much of the fan base is against the idea and drop it.

Hopefully that's the case because BGS has no experience outside the Single Player realm, if the rumors are true.

Neither does "Zenimax Online Studios". They've never made an mmo, or any other game. Ever.

I smell epic failure in the future if this turns out to be true.

Sandbox mmos do not flourish in the mmo realm any more, mmos belong to the casual themepark lovers.

You can count the number of successful, thriving sandbox mmos on one hand with 4 fingers left free.

A TES MMO is not something I'd ever play. I've seen a family member play an MMO and didn't like it. I just hope whatever is happening with TES that will not affect the series as I've known it and loved it. :tes:

And so the end of the last chapter in PC RPG's finally closes. The last of the great RPG's have gone MMO like the end of other great games like Ultima, and Neverwinter. At least they didn't go RTS like Might and Magic though.

An Elder Scrolls MMO will be amazing. These guys do not put out any product that is subpar. It will be revolutionary. I love both single player RPGs and MMOs but a living breathing world is something only an MMO can truly pull off. Can't wait til MAY!!!

With how deep the lore is in the elder scrolls universe, how could this be done without completely butchering established lore and history. Will it be like WoW and throw everything out and rewrite the lore, or like TOR and try to make what is essentially a single player mmo based around established lore. I'm not even going to get into races, classes, differing playstyles, etc... Either way it goes, IMO it's a bad decision. The Elder Scrolls name to many gamers means freedom and modding, with an mmo you get neither.

I hope the Todd team has nothing to do with this, and they continue to make good single player chapters every 5 years. The MMO will bite the dust sooner or later like all the mmos do, but our beloved should continue this rich tradition at least 20 years from now on, until we visit all the provinces.

I really dont want a ES mmo because it would kill off the single player games... see warcraft series and Knights of the old republic series. Tell you what im sick of these generic mmos which are heavily instanced (arena co-op game that you pay for...), gear based instead of skill, with boring and unbalanced pvp.

If you make a ES MMO, dont forget about the singleplayer games! also make it a non-instanced world that actually feels alive instead of a empty shell.

Oh, snap. I can understand them, they want to capitalize further the success of the single player franchise, but they should be careful how this will affect the sp series and the ways it can alienate the established fanbase, especially the sensitive lore lovers. I am cautious, will pray for the best but can't wholeheartedly say I'm not afraid of this project.

I don't mind this one bit.

Zenimax Online is the studio taking the risk, not Beth Softworks.

If it's successful, good for them. If not, it's not the gamesas team on the line.

It's another studio under Zenimax, Todd already said he likes TES as a single player experience.

Well the most [censored] hillarious thing is the mmo could be more like a classic RPG than TES has become under mr Howard  I mean look at World of Warcraft character stats and armor slots and spell variety and whatnot, and then look at Skyrim.

idk how they'll make it work and actually make it a substantial MMO. It probably will fail. hard.

Okay so calming down I think it's safe to assume it will be a Zenimax Online production. With that said as long as Bethesda's full effort goes towards their next single-player RPG I'm fine with an MMO being done by another company

Exactly. I'm hopeful, because that springs eternal. I'm tired of every other AAA franchise going the way of first-person shooters.

As for a plot, I like phinix's time travel suggestion. The use of Tamriel's metaphysics, to leap from spiral to spiral, sounds fun. Not so keen on more dwemer material. Also, the Crying of Lot 49's Jacobean Tragedy was written for an Elder Scrolls adaptation.

Those three factions in the latest rumor could be mercenary companies. Mercenaries and private armies were everywhere, in second era Cyrodiil.*

Aesthetically, I'd like to see the environs of the First Edition PGE. (Sumurset ought to resemble a German expressionist's city scheme.) The art and design, tried and true rpg mechanics, and lore will, ideally, be this game's draw.

* The "Lion" could be Srathra's head, representing his company.
