UninstallReinstall Issue

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 6:52 am

I attempted to install Morrowind Overhaul and the Morrowind Code Patch but failed because I purchased my version of Morrowind from digital download. I attempted to uninstall Morrowind and it failed to complete the uninstall, however the files are gone.

When I try to open Morrowind_v1.0_ddsetup.exe to reinstall Morrowind I receive the prompt: "Are you sure you want to remove Morrowind?". If I click yes I receive an error message that says "AU_.exe has stopped working" and then it closes.

Anyone ever run across this? I would love to reinstall Morrowind and start playing again.

Info:
Windows 7
Morrowind GOTY v.1.6.1820 w/ Bloodmoon and Tribunal expansions.

I don't know anything about computers so if you want different information let me know.

Thanks!

From which digital download provider did you get Morrowind? For example: Steam, D2D, etc...

I used D2D. Unfortunately the same thing is happening when I attempt to re-install Oblivion. It says "Would you like to remove Morrowind?" after a failed uninstall of Oblivion. Yes, it says Morrowind.

Thanks!

The registry keys associated with Morrowind (and possibly Oblivion) are most likely still intact. You can try manually delete the registry keys. Unfortunately, the keys may not be located in the same area. Search the following locations and delete the Morrowind folder. Afterwards try reinstalling Morrowind.

Note: Modifying the Registry may damage your computer's filesystem. Delete keys at your own risk.

First of all, go to the Windows Orb and in the search box, type: regedit

Morrowind can be in the following locations:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bethesda SoftworksHKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bethesda SoftworksHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bethesda SoftworksHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bethesda Softworks

Navigate to the previous directory and right-click and delete the Morrowind folder in the left-hand panel. You may also see Oblivion under one of those registry location, if Oblivion still having issue you may delete the Oblivion folder also.

I recommend rebooting after deleting the registry before attempting to reinstall the game.

If you're not comfortable with editing registry keys then http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/ http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/registry-cleaner/download/ is an easy tool to get rid of *lost* registry keys in Windows. :)
