How do I make graphics settings persist?

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 6:33 am

Every time I play a game I see that some graphics settings have reset. I have to drag all the following sliders back to the right:

grass distance
tree distance
actor distance
object distance
int shadows ( 2/3rds to the right )
ext shadows ( 2/3rds to the right )
specular lighting ( 2/3rds to the right )

As well, these settings are off when I want them on:

self shadows
grass shadows
tree shadows

What is causing these things to reset?

I'm NOT using Streamline. Tools I'm using are Oblivion Stutter Remover, 4GB LAA patch, OBSE, Wrye Bash, OBMM, and TES4LODGen.

After you readjust your settings type "saveini"(without the quotes) in the console and see if that works.

Also make sure that your Folder that the ini files and the ini files themselves are not set to read only -- otherwise the game can not save the changes when closing and thus will always stay what they were when you started the game.

And don't turn on "Self Shadows." It's broken.

Hmm, I figured our graphics were resetting each time because Oblivion crashes on exit ever since installing (I think) LAME.

Crash on exit is very common with modded Oblivion. Almost everybody gets it. There's a Fast Exit mod you can use to fix it, or you can just get in the habit of using the console SAVEINI command whenever you've made changes, before exiting the game. Either way will cause your settings to be saved.
