Why Is Everybody Dissin' Me?

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 12:13 pm

Hi all,I am having a problem with a lot of the NPC's lately,I did the KOTN quests and after completing them, becoming the "Divine Crusader",killing Umaril and restoring the Knights o' The Nine I returned to my home in Anvil, put all my "Crusader" armor and weapons away in storage and started living the life of a simple adventurer. After a few days I noticed that some of the NPC's are now saying things like..."I used to think you were a holy knight, now, not so much!" and things to that effect...WTF,it's not enough that I took a curse on myself, let a giant bear kick my fanny around the woods, fight off a fort full of necros and for what,so some lowly gate guard can disrespect me to my face? Makes me want to go back to the DB just so I can get my evil on!

Have you gained any infamy points since finishing the quest? If you have, this might be what's causing the NPCs to react in a hostile manner to you. You can complete the pilgramge again to wipe the infamy points, or just ignore them.

Lady Mara's right. You can redo the pilgrimage, then keep your infamy at 0 to stop those remarks. The Divine Crusader is a holy hero and, as such, folks expect very high standards. This is one of the rare occasions in Oblivion where the game attempts to exact a toll for inconsistent choices.

Or you can just put up with it.

Hmmm....I don't think I've done anything that would give me any "infamy" points but I'll check when I go back in to Cyrodiil....if that's the case, maybe a bit of mischief is in order....possibly an invisibility spell and then conjure up a scamp or two to run amok in a crowd....

You′ve set the bar pretty high by becoming the Divine Crusader so anything even remotely in the grey area gives you infamy points and people won′t stand for that

Yeah, you can only gain 1 Infamy point and keep the Divine Crusader bonuses. 2 or higher and not only have you lost the bonuses, but the guards start dissing you.
I've never tried becoming the Divine Crusader then turning around and becoming a cold-blooded murderer for the Dark Brotherhood...I'll bet the guards have a REAL conniption when you do that.

It might just be you have a real low personality rating.

The NPC's would say things like that to me when my infarmy was still on the books and I hadn't cleared it yet. I didn't realize it took a single point.

The blacksmith in Chedynhall (sic) would look at me mournfully and say how she used to look upon me and now realized I was like everyone else. IT was very well done dialogue and feedback- of the kind now missing in the newest ES, and it broke my heart. As soon as I could I cleared myself by a pilgramage and in the meantime avoided people.
I actually avoided NPC's in Oblivion because of this. Well done game.

Its because you have either 1 infamy point or more, this happened to me as well. I had to do the pilgrimage again -_-
