Hello, I just signed up because I dropped $20.00 on this game and I myself cannot seem to make it work.

I wont be ranty here is the problem. Ok so the first and second disks installed fine, the thing I notice off the bat is no short cut is made not the issue but worth noteing. Anyways I go to run the program and it sits and sputters for a minute then crashes with "windows has encountered a problem and needs to close".

Ok, thinking it was just a fluke of installation I uninstall and reinstall. Same issue, also everything is set to low or off. Tried window mode, I am thinking is probably somekind of hardware issue. I am not a computer guy so I know diddly about soundcards and all that fun processor stuff.

Specifically, I clicked launch, screen went black. then it crashed.

I also tried to update using the offical update from the website and it'd quickly shoot through try and launch the game same error.

Any help is appreciated since this looks like a good game and I would like to play my copy of it.

Side Note: I am a complete computer moron, please do not assume that I know anything about computers short of how to type and how to surf the web. I am also following this topic so I will be back to try suggestions quickly.

Anyways ... I noticed you have a knack for writeing/typeing

- are you starting up by clicking Fallout3 launcher?
- after installation, reboot your computer and wait 5 minutes to be sure all your system junk finishes loading. Now try to launch game.

I've installed Fallout3 Game of Year Edition and then patch 1.7, on my tablet ASUS EP121 Eeeslate.

I launch it, i select a "New game" and confirm it.

It load somethings and crash with that message (in french sorry) : "Fallout 3 a cessé de fonctionner. Windows tente de chercher une solution au problème"

For information : I've installed and i play Fallout New Vegas on my EeeSlate without any problem.

I checked the specifications for your tablet and they don't even mention what type of graphics processor it uses. You probably do not have sufficent power in your graphics processor to run the game properly. Hence, the crash on start.
Being able to run New Vegas does not mean you can run Fallout 3. They are different games programmed for a different level of technology.

These games are not intended to on mini-PCs such as various tablets and / or Netbook computers.

What are the Fallout 3 (PC) system requirements?

Minimum System Requirements:

* Windows XP/Vista
* 1GB System RAM (XP)/ 2GB System RAM (Vista)
* 2.4 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
* Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 256MB RAM

A video card, by definition, is on its own entirely separate circuit board, and is assembled on its own entirely separate assembly line, to have ready to add to a PC either after it is assembled, or in the case of laptops and other monobloc devices (Tablets, as an example), near the end of assembly, as the laptop is about to be welded shut.

Onboard chipset video solutions do not meet that requirement. The AMD series of "Trinity" high performance APUs will require a modification of the definition, as they are expected to be greatly superior to any other integrated hardware.

you can try reinstalling and this time do not patch to 1.7. GOTY comes already patched to the maximum.

I just upgraded my video card with 2 new video cards and when i try to load a game it says fall out has encountered a problem and crashes. i use to had a radaen 5450 and upgraded to 2 radaen 6450 hd and am using crossfire. this is my first time using 2 vcards. Im able to play skyrim and all my other games no problem. any have a clue on how i can fix this issue?

First thing to do is to search the posts here and on fallout nexus. You will have to limit your CPU to two cores to play the game. Also, Fallout 3 needs to be installed in a location other than the program files folder.
There is a problem with Fallout 3 and the Windows UAC. If you have loaded the game in the default location (C:\ProgramFiles\), you will have to uninstall the game and re-install it in another location. To do this, when the install screen comes on and asks if you want a default install or custom install, choose the custom install and than type in the location in the box.

i was able to play the game no problem before i upgraded my v-card.

Well If you didnt reinstall the game after changeing the video card (the game detects your video the first time you run it) It might not be able to run with its old settings. Wich can be tweaked from the launch screen/options/advanced settings.

Edit to add ... The default button will redetect your video. Make sure your on the correct video adator.

Just because other games run still is no indication that fallout 3 will (it is notoriously buggy compared to others)

If you dont want to mess with tweaking it , and you didnt allready reinstall it. Then do that ... and I suggest like M48A5 said to install it outside program files. You wont lose your saves , they are in a diff location, just select the option to keep them when asked during uninstall.

This still might not fix it for you ...but its a good place to start with these fixes almost always being a process of elimination.

Well I would still try reinstalling the game again , this time outside the programfiles.
Then do the ini edit found where your saves are. Mydocuments\Mygames\Fallout 3\Fallout.INI

Open this file up and find the line that says ... "bUseThreadedAI=0" and change it to "bUseThreadedAI=1" hit enter , then underneath it add this line ... "iNumHWThreads=2" close and save.

There's a Prefs.ini in the same place , take a look at it and see what it says your graphics adaptor is? It might not be able to update this from the game crashing. Inwich case reinstalling should fix it.
But you could just move/rename it, and see what happens.
