Fallout 2 Installation Issue

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 7:29 am

Okay, so I have the Fallout Collection by White Label, GSP.
And when I try to install Fallout 2 the installation screen goes completely black and I can't see anything.
If I hit ESC then it closes, if I hit enter two times then it closes.

What is the problem and how can I fix this?

I heard that there were problems installing it to Windows 7, x86, which I have.

[edit]

Okay... Scratch that, apparently the installation took 1 second and the Black Isle folder with Fallout in it was found in C:/programs.
The problem I have now is that when I start up Fallout2.exe, in Windows 98 compatability mode, it does it's intro's, but when I go to the start screen, the top and lower parts of the screen is black and the middle is green.

[edit2]

(I actually would like answers to both of the issues as I doubt the install I made was the HUMONGOUS installation which is the one I want.)

When I doubleclick the Fallout 2.exe the intro runs, with the classics rainbow pixel problem, and at the starting screen it looks like this: http://gabriel77cortez.deviantart.com/art/asd-294911758

Update.

I "think" I've installed the Humongous installation, but the problem were still there, so I got Killaps patch and then the resolution patch, now the intro's are black too and the starting screen is black instead of black and green.

Try different settings in the sfall or hi-res patch config files. Graphics modes and whether its: 8, 16, or 32 bit.
Maybe change it to winxp compatibility or none, because I'm not using any modes to run it on xp.

here is a http://www.gog.com/en/forum/fallout_series/fallout_2_mods/page1 of some important patches and mods for FO2

The high resolution patch should fix your rainbow colors problem. Once it is installed, select 32-bit color in the options menu in-game.

1. Try different settings in the sfall or hi-res patch config files. Graphics modes and whether its: 8, 16, or 32 bit.
2, Maybe change it to winxp compatibility or none, because I'm not using any modes to run it on xp.
1. I tried changing the size and the # bit, neither worked.
2. Can't do that, when I do then it says "Fallou seems to be running in compatability mode" and then doesn't do anything.

Screen is still black after trying to change the config files' settings.
Just hear the sound, nothing else happens.

It might be possible the installation of Fallout 2 wasn't correct, but again, I can't even see that, the installation screen is also pitch black, I have no idea which of the four installation options I picked or if it matters.
I tried to install sfall, didn't change a thing. Still pitch black screen with sound in the background.
