Cannot run Geck.exe after file decompression- a command prom

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 9:35 am

Hey errrbody,

Just bought New Vegas Ultimate Edition.

Downloaded it off of Steam. The game appears to run fine.

I downloaded the zipped folder for the NV GECK and unzipped it. When I attempt to open Geck.exe to run the installer, a Windows Command Prompt opens for a split second and automatically closes.

Help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Where did you extract the contents of the zip too? All of the files in the zip need to go into your Fallout new Vegas folder for the GECK to work.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your reply CevSteel, appreciate the help.

It's working now.

I can't pinpoint exactly what the key difference was, but in case anybody runs into the same problem, I'll describe my situation and some possible variables for reference:

-I just successfully decompressed the file with WinRar. Last night I had unsuccessfully used another file compression program (Express Zip File Compression).

- As CevSteel said, the contents of the GECK need to be in the folder where the rest of the Fallout NV data is located. I just searched for wherever libvorbis.dll was located and extracted it to that location.

-I created a "Games" folder on my C:/ drive and installed Fallout NV there, as opposed to Program Files, which apparently can cause access problems.

Last night I had already moved the GECK files to the location of the rest of my FONV files, as Bethesda's install tutorial had said to do, so I think extracting with WinRar is what did the trick.

SO excited to start GECKing!

Cheers,
