I've returned to New Vegas, one of my favorite games, after getting the Ultimate edition. But it won't allow me to go past the divide, saying I must travel the road alone, and a companion cannot be with me. I left the dog at my apartment in Novak but it still gives me this message. I believe this is the start of lonesome road.

I realize this is probably a over-asked question, but would appreciate the help. Do I have to get rid of my dog entirely to play this addon? I like my dog.

Yes you do, though you can still have him as a companion anytime you're in the Mojave.

You mean I can go back to the King, initate dialogue with his dog, and the dog will follow once more? I didn't know that- I've already given him a new brain. I thought if he had his brain he'd stay with the King.
I was going crazy trying to get this quest to start. It was download time again, I thought.

For all the bugs, I still like Fallout New Vegas better than Fallout 3.

If you have been to the Lucky 38 and got the Presidential Suite there, you can tell Rex to wait for you there. It's like a club house for all your companions.
And it clearly tells you when you are trying to enter the Divide that you must walk this road alone. How is that a bug? lol

This was asked under the "can't start lonesome road" thread.
Not having companions for the DLC's would be a design element. A bug would be if you could take them, but maybe they vanish or get stuck in walls when you enter the new areas.

I just went through this myself. I had Veronica with me, and I left her in the Novac apartment. But I couldn't get into Lonesome Road. So i went back to the hotel and dismissed her back to the 188 trading post. Then I had no problems getting back to do LR.
