Well here it is.

http://albinodunmer.deviantart.com/art/Ashborn-291152556

Inspiration for the Armor which I failed miserably at. Looks more like Splintmail than a beetles carapace.

http://www.fcps.edu/islandcreekes/ecology/Insects/Common%20Black%20Ground%20Beetle/97F02K_1.jpg Now imagine a giant Morrowind version lol. Most of the inspiration is from the back abdomen area of the beetle. I was not very successful lol.

Critiques and advice?

Thanks spent about an hour and a half maybe two on it. If you were just looking at the armor what would you think it was made of? Be honest. Also any critiques? Looking to improve at my newly reborn old hobby. Haven't drawn much of anything until about a few months back for several years now.

I wish I could draw humanoid figures. I would have a whole portfolio full of awesome Dunmer drawings, but alas, I can only draw still life. :(

Very nice by the way.

I saw the armor without first seeing the material it was supposed to be made of. When I saw it, I felt the texture was bamboo or some kind of wood. The shape though, seemed more appropriate to a metal armor.

And good job, I wish I could draw something... anything! :D

Since there is no colour in your drawing I had to try and imagine the colours by myself :P I imagine the armour is made from a semi shiny black material that isn't that heavy, so it could very well be made from a giant beetle ^^ That armour looks really cool, and it almost seems like it is a set of heavy armour that is incredibly light and strong and easy to move around in. Definitely something I would wear if I had to be on the battlefield :P

I dig it! I dig it a lot! :D

Right off the bat, I wouldn't really have any critiques for it, but if I had to find something, the only thing I would say is maybe give it just a wee bit more shine to make it look more like a glossy carapace. Other than that, the design is great.

By the way, great user name. My very first TES character was an "albino Dunmer." ;)

very nice, didn't really get the bug shell vibe, after i saw your inspiration i noticed the pauldron detail, and your scabbard was buggish. I think the only areas that need more buggish parts is near the neck, and the gauntlets. Like i said though its a very cool piece,

Thanks for the replies guys. I knew the armor was off though lol. I might try to rework the whole thing a bit, mostly just the texture of the armors so it feels more Dunmer and less splint mail.

@Ayumi, well at least I got the feel of the armors weight right! I was trying to make it seem protective but not heavy or overly bulky. The left arm is more heavily armored than the right for instance. This would allow more free range of movement in striking blows with the right arm.

Did I do the face right? Basically just drew my Skyrim character. Using mechanical pencils kind of svcks though lol.

You should apply a shaded area to the right side of the drawing, underneath the hand and just above it, to give some realistic definition.
Also I'd suggest highlighting particular areas of interest with a sharper, darker pencil. Like the face tattoo, the pupils and around the leftern side of the armour.
The armour reminds me of a japanese samurai's curved set of armour. As well as a certain set of armour from Dragon Age 2, although I can't remember the name.

Thanks, will work on it some more later when I can. Left the drawing at my gf's place.

I know what armor you're talking about from DA. I think it was banded armor or splintmail. I wasn't really going for a Samurai vibe though...looks like I got some work to do on bringing my concepts to the 'canvas' lol

It looks rather good, just a bit off in the beetle-like concept...

Thanks, lol and I know, I dunno how to really give it a more buggish beetle-y vibe except with trial and error. Or having the actual drawing available to me lol
