What is the most dissapointing town in the Elder Scrolls ser

Oblivion: The Imperial City and the ever burning Kvatch.

The fire codes in Cyrodiil really need a good working through, once a fire starts there it never goes out (Kvatch is far from the only example of that!). <_<

I don't understand all the hate for Falkreath on here. Think out of any of the minor cities in Skyrim, that one is my favorite. Sure the graveyard doesn't live up to all our expectation, but it is larger than any other in Skyrim. Plus you can't beat that sleepy wooded town, somewhat isolated from other places. Could it have been better? Sure. But most towns/cities in Skyrim could have been better in one way or another.

OT: most disappointing town would have to be Blankenmarch or Rorikstead for me. Blankenmarch could have atleast have some explanation why it was in the middle of nowhere. Plus I hate that area of Cyrodiil (the marshes closest to Black Marsh) so there's some bias in there. I visited Rorikstead after hearing "Ragnar the Red" countless times in inns across Skyrim. So I had a slight expectation that it would have some ancient landmark or such. Instead, Old Rorikstead is nowhere to be found on the map, replaced by the Rorikstead we visit which was founded by a man literally named Rorik. Slightly disappointed I didn't get to see the home of Ragnar the Red (even though his tale might be made up).

I actually really like Falkreath and Falkreath Hold, probably one of my favorite Skyrim areas.

I think the town I'm most disappointed in is Winterhold...I feel like the whole 'catastrophe' that sunk the city was just an excuse for Bethesda to be 'lazy' on a city that had been large and important to lore. Also disappointed with Dawnstar. Both of these 'cities' look like fishing villages.

During the days of Oblivion I was hoping for a Kvatch rebuilt DLC.

Instead of the castle home dlc, they could have placed it as part of the new rebuilt Kvatch city instead of it being way out in the wilderness. I'm sure that being the hero of Kvatch and also the hero of Cyrodill, the people of Cyrodiil would have supported your character's castle mansion being a major part of the re-build.

FWIW, the English english meanings of city and town used to be more precise. A city had a cathedral, i.e. a church with a bishop in it. A town had to have a market, (and a village was any cluster of homes that justified having its own church.)

Imperial City. When I first saw it my jaw dropped cause it was so big (from the outside) but on the inside, its rather small and no people around :(

Twice as many guards as citizens as well...

why solitude that is one of the best cities in the game cause of if its size and arcatecture and it actually feels like a real city compaired to every other city besides riften and maybe markarth.

those are my 3 favorite

Another note - mostly in skyrim i notice, the cities have only a few houses and many chapels, castles, shops etc. I dont see where all the people sleep... unless the guard tower had 50 beds....

The guards all sleep in the barracks (there are infinite guards so it can't really be said that each one has their own bed) in the castles/keeps. In general, buildings have a higher average NPC count than previous games (which is a more accurate representation of medieval life, but still a shame as it makes cities very small), for example, houses owned by clans usually hold at least 4 people. I don't know about every city, but I know Riften has a fair few people living in the slums in the sewers, and there are a whole lot of them in Helga's bunkhouse. Some also sleep in inns, or the shops they own.

Can't agree on the Leyawiin front at all. I love that place, such a nice mood, and the layout makes it the closest of the OB cities with Skingrad being the possible exception to feel like more than a small town. I can agree though that it's absolutely stupid that they made it block the river though.
Yeah, I liked Leyawiin. Felt a bit like a Daggerfall city.

That bloody river though! There are ships in the IC that use that channel, and I followed it until it was just a trickle of water with a cobbled path cutting it off entirely at one point. Grrr..

Nah, the ships at the IC don't need to worry about the blockage at Leyawiin, because they can't get past the shallows on both sides of the City Isle.

I can't shake the feeling that the entire city suffered a last minute overhaul
You might possibly be right. The concept art for Leyawiin was different from the city we see in the game.

That is because someone casts a feather spell on all ships going to and from the IC, and then they are picked up by Argonian porters and carried over the shallow areas.

Oh, yes, that's the high-speed ramp-to-ramp jump method. :)

Winterhold: when the thane is miserable with his own hold, that tells you something.

Although I did love the statue in the College courtyard.

Vivec.
It's confusing because everything looks so similar.
Also it's painful to navigate because the walking speed in Morrowind is so slow.
