Idea: Magicka Charging

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 6:49 am

I don't know if this is possible, but I just came up with a great idea: Magicka charging. Basically, it's where the player hits some kind of applicable object with a spell, and that spell gets absorbed by the object, which then makes it useful for things like blowing up enemies, or even powering some kind of machine.

What do you think?

I don't think that's possible, or if it is, I can't think of how to do it effectively or to the point that it's worth using.

As he said. I had somewhat similar idea few years back, but turned out you can't shoot stuff without having it set up as creature, and if it dies script can't be ran anymore, or so the gurus told me. That was before the script extender's time though, so not sure what all can be done now.

Well, what if you give the creature a 10000pt health regeneration per second, as well as a ridiculous amount of health?

Works for the Heart of Lorkhan. :P

Speaking of which, I just realized that that is a creature, which gives me some ideas, as well as hope that I might be able to pull of some form of my idea here.

I broke my game the second time around by using the Ebony Arrows of Slaying.

As Gaddgadd mentioned, it would have to be something sick, cause any end game character will be able to kill the creature.

Yep he is, and his regeneration is ran by script iirc, so you could try checking that out and editting the script to add some over the top stats. Agility bonus would be nice too to prevent the chance of it being hit by melee attack (which is much more likely to kill your thing than magic).

Wait, just to clarify, you're trying to do an imbue effect?

Having the actual spell hitting the object would be one thing, but I'm confused how it differs from enchanting other than you're hitting objects that can't be worn or held.

Assuming that's the case it's really really really hard to do so most people (like me) just make it a touch activator with a check for a specific item or something in the players inventory. Although that gets me thinking even more, could you not just make an invisible creature, like a sphere, around say a torch. And if the sphere takes fire damage -> activate torch on fire, or whatever it is you wanted to do.

Is there a script to detect what kind of damage was taken?

Basically what I want is to be able to change an object by hitting it with a spell, so that it becomes "powered", it becomes something I can use for different things.

I think what I want is going to be either impossible or too difficult to be worth doing, so I'm going to alter my aims a bit.

This sounds more reasonable, and is a pretty cool idea. I think Crafthold could benefit from lights/door/machines that are activated by switches that you have to hurl a spell at.

So yea, an imbue effect. hmmm I know little of TES scripting but what about something like this:

if player->getspellcast thendo blah blah blah

of course, I don't know if there is such a function of getspellcast but you get the idea

There isn't a function "GetSpellCast", however there is one called "GetSpellEffects". Look in MWSFD for the proper use of it.

Like I said, I know almost nothing of TES scripting, I just pulled that function out of my ass.
