Planetelderscrolls will no longer support new files from the

I'm probably going to sound naive here but when it comes to archiving I fail to see how content could so easily disappear. Presumably the mod database is stored on hard drives somewhere. Provided APY or someone had the time, would it not simply be a matter of duplicating the drives? I don't know the legalities involved, but could the duplicates not then be sold, loaned, auctioned or leased to an appropriate entity? I'd expect that no monies could be charged for the content nor the labour in making said duplicates, but it should be possible to recover the cost of materials (new drives) plus shipping and handling. If redistribution is an issue, perhaps the copies could be held in escrow until such time as PES does go down whereupon they could be made available to the highest bidder(s).
I don't see any difference between that and what Fliggerty is doing right now. For that matter, the same content is undoubtedly scattered on tens of thousands of hard drives around the globe. It's just that PES conveniently gathered it together all in one place and provided admin support for things like screening of new mods, ranking, filtering, and sorting of existing mods, password maintenance and so on.
Ideally, a new owner would step in to buy the site 'in toto' http://www.vg247.com/2012/03/15/giant-bomb-bought-by-cbs-interactive/, but that sounds pricey. At least the mods themselves should easily enough be salvaged.
Yeah, things svck all over http://m.ign.com/articles/2012/04/16/ea-responds-to-layoff-rumors

why not just go through all the popular lists (MAs, Mythic mods, povohulo (sp?), Knots, BTBs.) and stick them all on a big mod site. That's atleast 300-500 mods (rather than 2000).
we also need to keep "our history" such as unused yet iconic mods. A small site purely for the most used/loved mods would be perfect - gathering them from PES, Fliggerty, Nexus, EricM and fan sites.

Grrrr... trying to work the 'best' never ends well.

When the game was in it's prime there were thousands of mod hunters downloading mods - just because a mod has been downloaded thousands of times doesn't mean it doesn't make it any more valuable than a newer mod that has been downloaded less times - I can think of a number of recent mods that I really appreciate that have replaced some of the earlier ones I used to enjoy.

Just because someone made a list of recommended mods doesn't mean that they are must haves.

I doubt anyone would ever suggest all mods be replaced with a single Morrowind Overhaul - so why limit the choice of other players who like to customize their game to just a few hundred mods?

Grrrr....

I'm one of those modders that ...

... is a wonderful optimist - it's nice to have you around Superkitten

For example the Neverwinter Vault site (another IGN site using the same, or at least very similar code to PES) has had issues with its password reset form for many months now. Any returning members who need to retrieve their password can no longer do so, and the issue cannot be fixed by the admin of the site (the APY figure, if you will) as it's a programming issue.

It means the sites will not be receiving any programming updates, and if something breaks, it's unlikely it'll be fixed. A risky situation.

Yes - that is the hard part - it took me many months before I was able to get APY to reset my password - I felt not only isolated from PES but strangely powerless to do anything with my mods - Nexus on the other hand was still up and running and easy for me to access my content there

Modding for Morrowind or collecting mods for Morrowind can easily become an all consuming passion - it's great to be able to get feedback and recognition from uploading mods - I've been around long enough both as a lurker and a member to see the community go through it's ebbs and flows - I've seen people posting that Morrowind is dying and seen new modders continue to turn up and show great content - I do believe it continues to decline as each year some manage to get help for their Morrowind addiction and discover there is other life outside Vvardenfell.

I'll continue to upload and download from PES as long as I continue to enjoy the game and if my mods disappear one day I won't care - by then I will have moved on to other things.

It would be nice if this doesnt get locked as I am sure it wont be around too much longer and making another thread seems like a waste of space.

I'm one of those people who is collecting mods (lost/old and upload them to MMH) and yes it's a consuming passion, so you could say that's almost an addiction so to speak similar to play a modded game.

I think I know what you'll do next if PES was eventually shut down. :whistling:

I have just finished the split of TESNexus in to http://morrowind.nexusmods.com and http://oblivion.nexusmods.com. NMM support for Morrowind will be ready very soon.
