[LIST] Morrowind Cities Expanded

Morrowind Cities Expanded
------------------------------------------------------------------
Mission:
1) To compile a good list for new (and old) players to find quality, compatible mods that expand cities and towns of Morrowind - independent of other excellent projects like MSGO Game Experience and Morrowind Rebirth. The list will eventually be a page on the TESIII:Keening website.
2) To create patches for incompatibilities or errors.
3) To preserve the rich history of Morrowind City Expansions Modding. I will be keeping all of these mods on file on my computer in the event that any should vanish from the web. With this in mind, the mods are being listed by date rather than by town.
4) For my own personal use, of course - to ask the community for input on what quality mods I may not have seen yet.
5) Finally, to possibly expand some of the mods or combine them, depending on permissions and compatibility. Whether these combined .esps/ expansions actually get released is up in the air. I already have combined versions with patches for my own personal use.

Hi there!

I am all one for lists! I have made many of them so if I can be any help let me know!

to start with it might be worth checking some of my lists for further mods to include in your own list ( I already did a http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1162358-list-expanded-morrowind/page__fromsearch__1 ) but the more lists the better - espically an up to date one!

Usful links:

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1162358-list-expanded-morrowind/page__fromsearch__1

http://www.fliggerty.com/phpBB3/custom_page.php?page=32

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1155725-midgetaliens-reconmended-bloodmoon-mods/page__fromsearch__1

gonna give each of those threads a bump as well me thinks to prevent them from falling away!

Hope this helps and keep up the good work  Are you planning on making patches yourself?

Thanks! I am grabbing princess stomper's skaal house, vos plantation and vos expansion, which I'll add to the list after I've tested them out. I hope that when this list is more complete it may help some modders determine what areas might be lacking of any good expansion mods.

Although it was intended mostly as a modders' resource, http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=2146 expands Caldera to add an excellent graveyard just outside the gates. The idea was picked up by Dragonkin, who made a similar cemetery for http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=1502 (and Balmora, I thought, but I can't seem to dig up that version). Tarius then made http://tes.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=36812 that adds graveyards to all the major Imperial settlements; Pelagiad, Ebonheart, Seyda Neen, Caldera, and Wolverine Hall.

Princess Stomper made another version of http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6153; as I recall, she said in the readme that she was inspired or built off of by Ionnie's version. I know a number of later Seyda Neen mods are compatiable with Princess Stomper's docks, but not Ionnie's, such as Trancemaster's http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=5057. The New Cities Project also expanded http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8676 and http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8506. Although I don't believe it's compatible with the other huge Seyda Neen overhauls, http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8256 is also a superb, lore-friendly alternative. (That one may also work with Princess Stomper's Docks, but I'd have to double check to make sure.) Finally, http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=9388 adds a much-needed inn to Seyda Neen (and only an inn).

There's also http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=4095 by Princess Stomper, which is excellent, but perhaps a little less than lore-friendly.

http://tes.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=30197.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=1446 is excellent and pretty low-impact.

There is also my bugfix/upgrade for the Balmora Expansion which started off as a Texture fix but ended up removing a lot of debris from the mod, I fixed the path grids because in BE no adjustments had been made so npcs fall in the canol , bump into objects and are unable to wander in the new areas. Some of the modules in BE are old and had been since been updated, so i upgraded the furniture store , carnithus armamentarium and swapped the waterfall to the north with a better one. In addition i made compatibility patches for Callenwald, Furniture stores , and Better Looking Morrowind, aslo various other tweaks and fixes

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7078&id=4324

To enable users of low end PC's to play the Balmora Expansion i made a LIte version , which does the same as the above except i removed most non essential items
from the exterior of Balmora .The town looks bland but all the shops , and interiors are all there and i would expect performance with the Be Lite version to be roughly similar to playing Vanilla Balmora/

such as Trancemaster's http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=5057. The New Cities Project also expanded http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8676 and http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8506. Trancemanster's work is excellent, but I'm not going to include ANY of it, as it is being compiled into his own game-spanning "Morrowind Rebirth," which is progressing quite nicely. Obviously Balmora Expanded isn't compatible with Morrowind Rebirth. So, when we're done, we'll have two parallel expanded Morrowinds. I have a separate install for my Morrowind Rebirth experience.

I have princess stomper's Mournhold Expanded, and I think that definitely falls under classic mods, for sure. I get the picture that in the earlier days of modding, the community was more friendly towards mods that went outside the lore... people were probably just looking for something that was fun or interesting (You tell me, I'm just guessing). Bethesda drove that point home with their first "mod" for Skyrim being released as a robot companion, probably to remind us all to lighten up a bit. I'm definitely interested in Mournhold mods that are compatible, or creating patches for them. That will probably go on a sub-list, since TR is doing something with Mournhold, I believe. I've experienced a lot of game-crashes trying to try out Mournhold mods.

Thank you for this!! - as my aim in this is to preserve and promote as many classic mods as possible, a patch for Balmora Expanded, which is a classic compilation of about 40 classic mods, that's right up my alley. Going into the future, I think we'll have less and less people complaining about clutter slowing down their FPS too much. My computer can't handle MGE XE, so I figure if I can run a mod, then anyone should be able to by now unless their computer was already out of date when Morrowind was first released. The game's been out for ten years, so my focus is on a list that will be aimed at people who have modern computers, but not gaming rig monster machines... that demographic will likely use whatever MSGO Game Experience ends up including, rather than any combined file I might someday produce. But as for a list on the website, I can link to both versions just in case.

My own patch for my combined file has adjusted some "rumors/ little secret" errors that come with balmora expanded/ callenwood manor (it adds the topic to EVERY CHARACTER - I'm going to take a guess and assume that Slarti caught this error in his own patch), some land gaps outside caldera and a building outside of seyda neen that gets buried by land, and a wall in dagon fel (that may have been accidentally moved by children of morrowind).

If there are any mods for expanding Tamriel Rebuilt, I'll add those to the list as well. I haven't found any... probably because people worry that their mods will be incompatible with future TR updates. But still, there's a lot of land there, and Vvardenfell is getting really crowded with mods.

One compatibility patch that I would really like to see is Vivec Expanded (adds a lot of walkways, clutter, and docks between and around the cantons) with Piratelord's Redesigned Vivec. I loaded them both into CS and I could see that the width and position of the cantons was changed, so a lot of the walkways would need to get moved. A lot of work, but it might be worth it so that people don't have to choose one over the other.

A good example of why lists like these can be helpful to modders is the Lighthouse mod for Khuul that was designed to seamlessly insert as part of Casey Tucker's Khuul Expanded. That kind of compatibility between two mods is why I'm listing those mods over other khuul expansion mods.

Pseron Wyrd did in fact merge Vivec Expansion and Redesigned Vivec.

http://www.morrowind...c_Expansion.zip

I'd also like to recommend just using Slartibartfast1's version as a base and then integrating other pieces from there.

That's fantastic news! Except... the link is truncated and does not work. Can you re-post the link? Also, do you have a link for slartibartfast's version?

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7545 - This will need an updated MCA 6.1 patch.

For Balmora you can also consider:
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6035
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=5479
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=605

At a cursory glance, this appears to be compatible with Ebonheart Shacktown.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7796

For Buckmoth, this isn't bad though it's basically just adding clutter.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8366

There is also a Frostmoth expansion here:
http://tes.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=30236

New Gnaar Mok:
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7187

Suran:
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=5244
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=1777

Tel Branora - definitely a classic here:

Vivec Interiors:

If there is a need and/or demand for it, you are free to integrate the Ald-Ruhn Temple Expansion into any future compilation mod you have in mind if you so desire. Same goes for creating compatability patches for it, of course.

Nice list, by the way. It almost seemed off that it started in 2003 at first. I keep forgetting how long this game has been modded. : P

Cheers for the kind words about my mods - you have my permission to do whatever, just credit where it's due and all that (a lot of the included stuff isn't mine). That also goes for re-uploading, though pretty much everything is mirrored anyway.

Suran Extended, Ghostgate and Mournhold Expanded are made with reference to lore but aren't considered "lore friendly" - at least aesthetically; it was more a case of taking the ball and running with it. The more conservative mods that I've made include Thirsk Expanded (which you've got), http://princessstomper.wordpress.com/2009/02/22/lcv-wolverine-hall/#more-422 (which requires Living Cities of Vvardenfell - the download link is broken but the mirror link still works), and http://princessstomper.wordpress.com/2009/01/21/ald-redaynia-extended-v13/ (which is actually the most lore-friendly expansion since it is referenced in the game but does not appear). There's also http://princessstomper.wordpress.com/2009/03/01/princess-docks/, which I made and Denina revised - it's a minor expansion to Seyda Neen.

There was http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=1667 mod made by someone called Ottar, which I didn't explore in a huge amount of detail but it was fairly good from what I remember. Because Mournhold is all interiors, they are all compatible by default. Quatloos made a http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=2960, too, but that was more of a revision than an expansion.

Thanks, Princess... I appreciate your response and guide to your mods. After keening pt 1 comes out, I may do a side project relating to city expansion compilations. depending on what I find, what permissions I can get, Balmora Expansion Expanded might be in the works now that I have your permission. Unless I'm working on creating a massive lore-based quest, I'm more concerned with whether a mod is interesting or enjoyable. Like, you can't buy Sunder in Balmora Expansion, but you can go to the zoo and see daedra in cages and the museum made me laugh SO HARD. Players seem to be very strict lore police these days, but "lore-referenced" is perfectly fine for me.

Don;t forget Grumpy's splendid Solstheim inn, the Mouldy Horker (compatible with Frostmoth Docks)

Wasn't the Moldy Horker included in Necessities of Morrowind? In which case better not include it in any compilation because of the obvious conflict.

Wasn't the Moldy Horker included in Necessities of Morrowind? In which case better not include it in any compilation because of the obvious conflict.
Yes it was, so probably best not to include that one.

There's this old list of mine: "http://www.mwmythicmods.com/SettlementExpansions.htm" but I'd really recommend looking at Psymon's http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1193089-list-compatibility-list-of-morrowind-infrastructure-mods/ thread.

I don't see any Solstheim or Bloodmoon expansions. I mean, Thirsk is fine and all but I go there about twice for a couple of quests and I'm done with it.
Fort Frostmoth itself has little use after it's destroyed.

Was hoping for extra towns and such.

Well, Korana's Solstheim Castle has a village and there's a whole landmass with Lokken Mountain, so that's plenty of expansion. :)
