Strange leveling fact

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 3:03 pm

I'm level 1. I placed a Bandit Ringleader in Vilverin exterior and saved the plugin.

Lookin in the CS, this "BanditBossMale1TEMPLATE" (3DC24) got:

PC Level Offset checked
Offset 1
Calc Min 1
Calc Max 0

GetLevel on him in-game returns me "level 10", how can it be?! He should be of level 2 if I'm level 1, right?

BUT

If I simply edit BanditBossMale1TEMPLATE, not touching anything but renaming it like "BanditBossMale1Test" (creating a new form as requested) and I place him in Vilverin... it works, he's level 2 as expected.

Why?

Thx

If you have another plugin that changes BanditBossMale1TEMPLATE, those changes will not be seen in your plugin, but will show up in game.

Shivering Isles
official DLCs
KoTN
Unofficial Patches

Nothing else. Sounds strange to me then (Unofficial Patches changing the Bosses somewhat?).

Anyway, now I'm workin with Oblivion.esm only checked so it's impossible something else is changing it...

Update: at level 1, I did "coc CursedMine03". In that cell, ther's a leveled list with one of the BanditBoss I'm referring to in my examples. I found him and checked his level via console. She's level 10 again.

So, is it me not gettin how NPC's levels are calculated?

To recap: with the player at level one, why BanditBossFemale1 and BanditBossMale1TEMPLATE are of level 10 in my game? Aren't they supposed to be just one level above the PC?

Thx

Holy... with PC al level 1, Black Bow Bandit Bosses are of level 22.00 (!!) instead of beign just 4 level above.
No way, something is broken with the Oblivion installation here and I got no mod installed.
Going to reinstall - if you got any tips please say it before I'll reinstall and start another char.... uff :/

I wish I could test this myself, there is definitely something wrong with the 'factory values' that some NPCs with auto-calc stats have, for example if you open up such a NPC record in the CS and exit without changing anything, the record will appear as changed.

But what you are describing is a bit extreme. Did you use any other mods which could alter those NPCs, like OOO or MMM? They do set the level offset of bosses very high. Know that once you encounter an NPC type, its level offset and associated stats are set for the whole game as per your mods the moment you encounter him, even if you uninstall the mod which altered him. You have to fix your savegame with the 'update NPC levels' from Wrye Bash before after installing or uninstalling that kind of mods.
