Nvidia - Max Frames To Render Ahead

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 7:39 pm

Currently defaulted to 3.

I know all about the setting it lower for lag, but if I set it to 5 or 6 - surely that's going to allow my game to run smoother yes?

Cheers,
Mat :)

Not necessarily -- too high of a setting will mean the GPU is using processes to render so far ahead that it runs out of VRAM to process the current page and winds up slowing the whole process down when it has to use the system memory swap file instead of the faster VRAM to render the curent frame and can result in a lot of stutter as it pauses to render the current frame and then rapidly displays the next several frames that have been prerendered and waiting in VRAM only to repeat the process.
