Sudden Oblivion setup issue

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 8:35 pm

I re-installed Oblivion GOTY few weeks back, because the mods I installed didn't work (and yes, I know how to install mods, it just happens sometimes). Well, as I put in the disc, the files pop in normally but when I doubleclick Setup.exe and allow changes, nothing happens. Simply nothing.

The disc-reading icon shows for a little while, then disappears, then the disc running in the drive stops. No error messages or anything.

Ive tried the following:

-Started setup.exe as administator
-Disabling antivirus and firewall during installation
-Rebooting system, deleting all old files about Oblivion

It could be about:

The disc has taken a little damage in the center, which of course might be the reason, but I don't think it would even show me the setup files if it was broken. I haven't tried with a different Oblivion disc yet.

Also, the CD drive itself should be fine, since every other game or movie runs fine.

Any ideas?

If the disc has been damaged it may well be that your machine can't read it.

Have you tried the disc in a different machine...?

this is kinda hokey, but when my one disk didn't work, and I have now 5 oblivion disks, I sprayed it with pledge/ furniture wax. it filled in the cracks till i could get a new disk. I'm not kidding. I'm that addicted. But it worked. Others may say it doesn't but it worked for me.
Just gotta be careful to get it where the deep scratches are.

Yea, the disc itself is not scratched or anything, but the middle of the disc is a little broken, dunno how should I explain it. It has altought readed the disc like that tons of times, so I wonder what has suddenly happened.

But well, it's only 10 euros around here, so I can buy another anyday.

Get the Steam version (also $10??) and you won't need a disc.

Happy gaming!
