Elsweyr Anequina mod gone for good this time!

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 9:34 am

It looks like not only is Elsweyr The Deserts of Anequina gone from TesNexus, but now it's gone for good as Iliana is shown as being Banned from the TesNexus site! And it is also hard to contact her anywhere on here or anywhere else on the internet to see if anyone else can get her permission to reupload the mod to the TesNexus and PlanetElderscrolls sites! So what good is mods like Onra's Heightmaps and Tamriel Landscapes and the various mods taking place in the Elsweyr providence if one cannot even download the required Elsweyr Deserts of Anequina safely from the only 2 known safe sites listed? And no, I wouldn't even recommend downloading it from Rapidshare, either, as that site is said to be just like Megaupload and filled with Malware/Adware/Viruses and is likely to be taken down by the Feds sometime in the near future due to certain reasons!

So is there any other sites besides Rapidshare where one could download Elsweyr Deserts of Anequina without the risk of one getting a virus/malware/adware/spyware or the Gov. shutting the site down like they did with Megaupload?

How did Iliana get banned from the Nexus?

If someone were to get her permission (or not), PES or TES Alliance would be the best places - both allow large files and the ability to have an actual entry, instead of a link somewhere that could get lost.

She puts herself in self-imposed ban, to block messages. She does this periodically. I wouldn't panic we'll never see Elsweyr again.

I expect she gets a lot of rubbish from users when she goes live, I just wish she wouldn't keep hiding the mod. Every time she does I think she might actually do a little update.

Hasn't she already given permission in one form or another for someone to pick up the torch? I could swear she had, but can't find the information now.

Uhh...this is so incredibly not an issue I don't even know where to start. Rapidshare (and hell, Megaupload) aren't evil, formless entities looking to infect you with viruses. They are file hosting sites. Period. Megaupload was shut down because it was hosting copyrighted materials (which they all are, actually, since its all user-uploaded content), though in MU's case they were actively aiding and abetting and making a profit explicitly off that content.

Anyway, your computer will not explode if you download something from Rapidshare, and the cops aren't going to beat down your door over it. If you are really concerned, after you download the file, run a virus scan. I have downloaded literally thousands of files from Rapidshare, Megaupload, Mediafire and innumerable other sites of that type, and I've managed to not get a virus from any of them.

Not sure how recently you actually did that, but it was well known before the takedown that Megaupload was infested with all manner of malware in their advertisemants and ad blockers were insufficient to stop them all from making the attempt. Sure, if you have a good AV setup, it shouldn't be an issue. That doesn't change the fact that the place was a cesspool. The Feds did us all a favor on that one.

Rapidshare has as bad a reputation for this, perhaps worse, and has for as long as I've known about them. I don't think it really does anyone a service to downplay the risks involved in using it.

Of course you have to practice safe internet browsing, but you are highly unlikely to get a virus from the actual DOWNLOADS. Possible, but unlikely.

The adds, of course, are a different story, but that is the same in many places.

Nobody was saying you'd get one from the actual files. MU and RS have horrid reputations as cesspools of infected ads though.

There's a safe-six anology here, and that's the end of it.

Which is why it's a bad idea to upload anything there. :)

AFAIK, she hasn't given permission for anyone else to work on EA itself - that's why LogicDragon did the unofficial patch. It would be great if she did, though - there are several half-finished quests in there that wouldn't take much work to flesh out - but she probably doesn't want anyone mucking around with her vision, which I don't blame at all.

One can just as easily create dependent esps (with CSE), but creating mods depending on mod that may or may not be available can be quite unrewarding.

The mod has always been available and simple google search should take people to its home on the German and French modding sites.
I really don't wish to use tesnexus and asked them recently to delete my whole account. So please don't pressure me to return there.

If either LogicDragon or Kyomo wish to upload the mod to TESAlliance (not Nexus) you have my permission to do so.

@dukeofspook
I thought I told you to stay away from me and my work after what you did just over a year ago. Your cross-site rampages have been very unpleasant.

@Dukeofspook: Ooo, cross-site arguments is a no no here too, so watch what you post next.

@Iliana: Sorry you feel that way about TESNexus. Regardless, thanks for allowing LD or Kyomo to upload it at alternate sites.
