How Do You Upgrade Companions?

So I just got raul but how do you upgrade your companion? How do I get his gunslinger outfit? I used all the conversation options and there wasn't any other quests or anything?

Just go to where you use him as storage and take it, then give them armor and they will equip the best ones you dont do it for them.

I thought raul had that gunslinger outfit but all he wears is his mechanic clothes?

How do I get his personal quest? I've talked to him and I've chosen every dialogue option but I didn't get any quest?

WAIT.

Veronica's happened over time, just travel with him, and eventually he'll stop, and when you approach him, he'll probably spout off about the quest. Or at least, thats what Veronica did for me.

Unfortunately, no. His doesn't work like that. It's a quest, but it's not a side quest, it's a free form quest. Meaning you won't get any markers or info in your Pip-Boy, talk and listen to him. Says something interesting, or something he would want to do, follow up on it.

Is it dialogue he will say during our travels or will it be dialogue when I talk to him through the companion wheel?
