Newby question re patches, Steam

Played Oblivion, got Skyrim in November and have logged about 180 hours.
Buying Fallout: NV next week when holidays start.
Could not find patch download on this site. Will Steam recognize my id when I install game and download relevant patches?
Thanks for any info. . .
