Daggerfall new player. Please help.

Howdy,
I downloaded Daggerfall the other day because I was starting to get a bit blegh with Skyrim so I thought I'd stop playing before I got mega bored. So after finally getting the combat system worked out, I'm just wondering if there's a way to make me move faster. I've seen videos on youtube of guys moving at break neck speed through the game and I sound like I'm just plodding along. Is the game itself running slow or is there a magic button that I need to press?
I downloaded the version off UESP if that matters at all. Windows 7. Brand new laptop.

EDIT: apparently the forums don't like the word n.0.0.b XD

If you mean "fight faster", then you must invest more points into Speed when you raise in level (or simply generate a new character with better Speed if you're not too involved with your current one). If your game is generally slow, try to change your framerate (CTRL-F11/CTRL-F12). And if you meant videos of *running* with really unnatural speed, there's a cheat for that - edit your "z.cfg" file, add the line "cheatmode 1", and press 1 during the game.

Are you using the run key? The run key is P by default. I would recommend switching it to another key. I changed it to Left Shift for ease of use with WASD myself. The speed you gain from it is based on your running skill percentage and speed attribute score.

Yeah I tried using P to run and nothing happened. So I'll just cheat I guess. And it's not possible to look around while you're running? I've seen videos of that before too.

It could also just be a matter of mapping my controls better couldn't it? So I'm not reaching all over the keyboard.

For view based movement instead of cursor based movement. Visit the controls section and click mouse. You will see Cursor and View. By default Cursor will have a box beside it filled with a red square. Your going to want to switch it to the View box by clicking on it. Then you should have a set up which feels more like later TES games. As for running not doing anything. It might be because of your skill percentage. You can build running up pretty easy. Any tavern is a simple way. Just get a room and run around and burn up a lot of your fatigue and rest. You should see a noticeable difference after gaining a few skill increases. Of course if you don't mind cheating. Just do that.

Edit - In my opinion mapping your own controls for Daggerfall is very important for your play experience with the game. After Arena my wrist and hand had enough of arrow keys for movement and WASD was a welcome change. As I am playing a custom mage class I also changed the keys for casting and cancelling spells to make it easier for use during combat. As I already mentioned I changed P to Left Shift for the run key.

Well, if you didn't pick running as one of your skills, it's probably five right now. That's slow enough you won't notice much. Keep it held down as you run around towns and it will skyrocket. I usually get that skill up to 100 first just by using it so often. Also, don't sleep outdoors in towns. Get a room or the guards will come after you for vagrancy. The fighters guild has free beds if you're a member.

Lol thanks. But I found that out the hard way. I didnt even get a chance to rest. As soon as I pressed R I got thrown in jail.

How are you playing Daggerfall? If youre using DosBox, the game will be incredibly slow without the right settings.
