Enjoying MW and making some progress

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 1:45 am

I posted roughly a week ago concerning MW and asked some questions about some mods. I've got that togetther now (just the basics, no graphic mods just MCP/DBH delay/MPP/and a few offical DLS's). Graphics dont really concern me much if the gameplay is rich and detailed. Currently I am a Lvl 6 Battlemage (standard) Dark Elf named "Rashne" and am enjoying the game quite a bit. The intent is too play though MW along with its 2 expansions, then proceed to Oblivion, mod as nessecery and play through including the DLC's and expansion. At which point I hope Skyrim has either been overhauled by Beth or (more likely the modders) and can gain some level of enjoyment out of it.

Back to MW. I notice alot of people make custom classes, for those that have do you feel that the standard versions are poorly done or just do it out of prefrence? It appears to me that stock classes will tend to limit you with redundant stat skills, not that its a problem. As I said I chose the stock Battlemage, I always tend to play the Warrior/Knight type but I wanted some magic capability. The Battlemage seemed to be a nice hybrid of magic and hack and slash (I do love heavy armor sets).

Concerning Rashne, hes a member of the Fighters Guild and Mages Guild and Blades Apprentince. Havent done much exploring, mostly been training. After sitting in that Imperial cell (however long it was) its been nice to just feel free again and get some exercise. Well free enough, I do have obligations to the Empire as per the conditions of my release. But I am loyal to my Emperor regardless of threat of treason should I attempt to escape. I do not wish to disclose my past, at least that which I rememeber, perhaps someday. I have been granted a new life, I never though I would see the outside world again. I intened to make the most of this oppertunity and to serve loyaly until the sword, dieases, or age takes me.

I will occasionly post about the status of Rashne as he makes his way through the game. Throwing in a little bit about his perceptions of the world and how or if they change. Perhaps some will find it interesting but Im mostly do this for myself. Placing my thoughts on the forum here rather then writing them down just for myself would be boring and I would not be very motivated to do so. Its a way for me to continue to define my avatar verbal and easily look back on what Ive already done.

So in closing comment is you wish but Id also like to hear about your avatars and thier stories and backgrounds, minus spoliers of course, accomplishments can be spoken of without specfic detail.

The pre-set classes are generally done poorly. It's far better to focus on one weapon skill and one armor skill rather than two or more of either, and most pre-made classes have at least a couple weapons or armor skills. So, it usually turns out that you're wasting a few of your skill slots if you go with a pre-made class.

But that's just an effectiveness mindset at work. There's nothing inherently wrong with making a character with two or more weapon or armor skills, if for whatever reason it fits with your character, particularly from a roleplay perspective. It's just that from a gameplay perspective it isn't as effective, and that's why people prefer custom classes. Also, some people will ALWAYS want agility as a primary attribute so they have less 'Missed' attacks earlier in the game, and other people might ALWAYS want endurance, or personality, or whatever else. So it's just a matter of preference.

That sounds like fun, I would love to see 'authentic first-timer' reactions to parts of the game that I've experienced for nearly ten years now, and sort of relive that 'first-time feeling' through you. Plus, who knows you may start a trend. The boards are pretty inactive, but if people start writing about their characters and getting responses hopefully it will lead to more activity and fun on the board.

Yes, keep us posted! Like you, I am essentially playing through as a beginner in Morrowind, not counting a single character I made a year or so ago, but I didn't get very far.

I love reading people's discussions on their gaming experiences. Maybe I'll do the same thing in a different post...

There was some sort of article (by a reviewer?) in which the player mentioned that he was having trouble playing a particular class of character, and the developer replied "Oh, you're playing a preset class? I didn't think anyone did that" or words to that effect.

Essentially, I regard premade classes as "examples", not what I myself would play. I've often taken two armor classes (including Unarmored) as Major/minor or both minors, or two weapons groups, but not both multiple weapon types and multiple armor classes with the same character. Add overlapping spell schools or one that overlaps with a physical skill (yes, let's learn waterwalking, slowfall, and levitation, and also take Acrobatics so we don't need to use them) and you've got a premade class.
