I have a couple questions

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 12:08 am

So these Boots of Blinding Speed are pretty fast and recently I got this armor, Savior's Hide or something like that with 60% magicka resistance, that means I can use them while being able to see. My character is mainly heavy armor but I love that speed, I have full ebony but I'm debating whether or not to use the boots and armor (both light armor).
Any ideas or does it even matter? My light armor is really low level but I think I take dmg pretty well anyways so Idk.

It's a trade-off.

Downside:
- You lose some physical damage reduction as long as your Light Armor skill remains low
- Your Heavy Armor skill will raise more slowly now

Upside:
- You gain the magic effects of the new armor
- Your Light Armor skill will raise once in a while (can be handy to get mods to Agility when you level up)
- The new gear is lighter so you can carry a bit more stuff than before

If you're already handling what the enemies are dishing out then it sounds to me like the trade-off is worth it.

I'm just gonna leave it how it is, I like running that fast and that armor has high defense for being light armor

Or you could use the 'Pro's method' for Boots of Blinding Speed.

If you used the Cuirass of Savior's hide you'd be blinded 40%, which is still enough to make your screen pretty dim. However, what you could do is buy the 'Resist Magicka' spell from the Orc mage in the Balmora Mages Guild, and then custom create a spell that's a cast on self 100-100 Magicka Resist for 1 second. Even a character without restoration as a favored skill should have a low but reasonably chance of successfully casting this '100% Magicka Resist for 1 second' spell. I think it's around 20%. Either way, keep casting it and using a nearby bed as needed to recharge your magicka until you successfully cast it. Then, quickly equip the boots of blinding speed. Your 1 second worth of full magicka resistance will 'Eat' the blind effect, and you can use the Boots of Blinding Speed with no penalty at all! All you need to do is cast your spell again if you ever have to take them off for some reason.

Wait... you guys don't know this?

You put the boots on, exit the menus. Go back in the menu, put saviors hide on, take it off and wear whatever armor you want. You're left with the resist effect still on. I always do that :D

Maybe I can borrow this thread, rather than making a new one.

Right now I have the DB armor, I am lvl 4 and it is WAY stronger than anything I have found in the game. Are there any merchants that sell armor that are better? Or is it a matter of finding special armor during quests or in dungeons?

I am kind of lost since the armor does not scale like in Skyrim...

In terms of light armor I believe the only full set of superior armor you can find is Glass Armor, but that's very high end indeed. Unfortunately, getting jumped by the Dark Brotherhood and using the assassin's armor gives you a relatively high quality armor set a little too early in the game, in my opinion.

Aside from glass armor, there is also a set of Wolf Armor and maybe some other items available in Bloodmoon which might be better than Dark Brotherhood armor.

Ok, thanks!

Well, that is sad, that a very good armor is available this early. Guess I can always sell it and just use my chitin armor again. =)

Well, it's good armor but considering that you have lowish armor skill at the start, it doesn't really give you that much total AR, certainly not game-changing. The early availability of artifact level armor is much more of a problem IMHO. I'd say keep it.

Originally I agreed with you, Chitin looks pretty weird and ugly...but as I played more I kind of understood how culturally significant Chitin was, and how well it 'fit' with Morrowind, to the point that I really don't mind it anymore, and often use it. And, frankly, I miss it and other Morrowind culture armors (especially Bonemold) in subsequent games.

I really like the look of Netch Leather armor though, particularly if you swap out the helm and chest for the Boiled Netch Leather variety.
