Making a new key: location of .nif

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 7:18 pm

I was trying to make a new key today for a door, and it wanted me to select the .nif Where are these store, and how can I get to them? All I want to do is use the normal .nif and icon for the key (i.e. Clutter\Key\key01.nif) but I dont much about where they are - I know they are in a .bsa, however but thats about it. I also have a issue with the beast classes using the wrong .nif, but cant change it.

Any help would be welcome, thanks

Quickest way to make a new key is to copy an existing one. Double click on a key, change it's RefID, name, etc. Leave the existing mesh fields as is. Click ok and it'll ask if you want to create a new form, say yes.

Another way is to use the CSE, and you can go directly into the .bsa's to select meshes.

I'm not sure I understand what you're doing. Don't pull it out into the render window.

In the Object Window, click on the key category. From the list of keys, double click on any one. Change the ID, change the name. Click Ok. It'll ask if you want to create a new form, say yes. Voila, you have your own key.

The CSE is the http://tes.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=36370. Adds additional functionality to the CS as well as fixes quite a few bugs. Well worth using.

@G Rath: CSE = http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1250150-rel-construction-set-extender/.
@Hanaisse: I believe you're using the wrong terminology - It's the editorID you change to duplicate a base form.
